Major General Liniyakumarage Lal Anton Fernando, (Sinhala: ලාල් ප්‍රනාන්දු) RWP, MISMM (born 29 March 1950) is a Sri Lankan general. He is a former Colonel commandant of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC).[1] He retired from active service in 2005 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 55 for Sri Lankan Armed Forces Personnel.

Early life and education edit

Lal Fernando was born on 29 March 1950 in Panadura, Sri Lanka. He studied at Sri Sumangala College, Panadura.[2]

Military career edit

On 20 July 1971, Lal joined the regular force of the Sri Lanka Army to Officer Cadet Intake 05 of Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyathalawa (SLMA).[3] On successfully completing his officer training in both SLMA and Officer Training Academy (OTA), Chennai - India [4], he was commissioned on 6 May 1973 and was posted to the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps as a 2/Lieutenant.

During his military career, he held many command and staff appointments such as General Staff Officer II, General Staff Officer I, Directorate of Logistics, Commandant - Base Ordnance Deport, Colonel Admin & Quartering, Centre Commandant - SLAOC, Directorate of Humanitarian Law, Directorate of Psychological Operations, Directorate of Movement, Directorate of Personal Administration, Directorate of Ordnance Services. In 2002 he was appointed as Commander Logistics Command and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps.[1]
