MTV Video Music Awards Voting is the voting process through which Winners are chosen for the voted categories at the MTV Video Music Awards, an Annual Music Awards Ceremony held by MTV. It has been held annually since 1983.

Current system edit

The Official Voting System for the 2023 Video Music Awards according to MTV as follows,[1]

  • Each voter must be at least 13 years or older to participate in the voting.

General Voting Period edit

  • The first round of voting is known as the "General Voting Period" and includes most of the voted categories (15 out of 19 categories).[2]
  • Each voter can vote up to 10 times per category per day through Vote.MTV.com.
  • Voters should have signed in to their MTV.com Account as its necessary to limit their votes across the devices.[2]

Double Days and Power Hours edit

  • There would be three "Double Days" with "Power Hours".
  • During these periods voting limits are doubled; each voter can vote up to 20 times per category per day.[3]

Instagram Story Voting edit

  • The second round of voting is known as the "Instagram Story Voting" and includes Group of the Year, Show of the Summer, Album of the Year and Song of Summer.
  • It is held through MTV's Instagram stories.[4]
  • Voters can vote by clicking on their favourite Nominees on Instagram polling stickers.
  • Each round is 24 hours.

The General Voting Period began on August 8 12pm ET, and concluded on September 1 6pm ET, except for Best New Artist which concluded on September 12 10pm ET. August 8 12pm to 11:59pm ET, August 9 12am to 11:59am ET and September 1 12am to 6pm ET were the Double Days with Power Hours. The Instagram Story Voting was held from September 3 11am ET to September 12 11am ET.[5][6][7]
