Alessandro Anzani was an Italian who after becoming friendly with cycle racer Gabriel Poulain emigrated to France in 1900 and became well-known as a racing motorcyclist. He designed and built his own engines and they were used by many early aviation pioneers, most notably by Louis Blériot who used an Anzani engine in the aircraft in which he made the first crossing of the English channel in a heavier than air aircraft. 1905 world speed record 1906 world champion Ostend
