Xbox Live certification issues edit

Multiple developers have cited issues with Microsoft's Xbox certification process. "We certainly wish it was a quicker process," said Isopod Labs, "but this is how the cookie crumbles — not much else to do, but wait."[1] In a post-release interview with Joystiq Isopod Labs' Adrian Stephens added "The certification issue is a tricky one and more could be done to smooth the path towards certification."[2]

  • Uber Entertainment complaints[3][4][5][6][7]
  • Braid's Jonathan Blow was critical of the Xbox Live certification process, as he believed the effort to meet all the requirements could have been better spent on polishing the game. At the same time, the certification team allowed him to retain certain aspects of his vision for the game that were otherwise contrary to the process, including giving the player immediate control of the game instead of requiring a start-up title screen.[8]
  • Gamasutra's coverage[9]
  • Reason Battlefield Heroes is unlikely to come to the 360.[10]
  • Reflexive Entertainment's complaints[11]
  • Shogi's 7 months in certification[12] (references on Braid's site)[13]
  • Introversion Software "2008 review"[14]
  • Burnout Paradise title update holdup[15]
  • Limbo (video game) developer complaints[16]
  • Bully (video game) patch waits past original date for certification[17] (also covered by Joystiq, but they reference MTV)
