Jim Kerr is a radio personality on the classic rock-formatted radio station located in New York City, WAXQ (104.3 FM, "Q-104.3"). He hosts the Jim Kerr Rock and Roll Morning Show with Shelli Sonstein. Kerr is on air weekdays 5am to 9am. He took over the morning show at WPLJ in New York March 1974 when he was 21 years old. By this time, Kerr had six years of experience in the radio industry.[1] After 15 years in New York, Kerr moved to several different radio stations, working for WPIX, WYNY, WMXV, WQCD, and Y107 before joining WAXQ in 2003. At various points in his career, Kerr would fill in for Rush Limbaugh on his radio show when Limbaugh needed a substitute.[1] As of 2010, Kerr also hosted a 50s show on Sirius/XM.[2]

Kerr has a signature style that he has developed during his five decades in radio. He is recognized for being "laid-back, pleasant, [and] upbeat" by some while others admonish him for, as he says, being "too bland, too white-bread, not 'edgy'."[1]
Charity edit
Kerr has been a member of the Board of Directors for HeartShare Human Services of New York since 1987.[3] HeartShare is a non-profit that provides residential services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Kerr first became involved in the organization when a caller to his morning show invited him to emcee for a fundraiser. He has served as Master of Ceremonies for HeartShare's Spring Gala annual fundraiser throughout the following years. To celebrate his 25th year of service to the non-profit, in 2012 HeartShare dedicated a home for adults in his name, the Jim Kerr House.[3]
