The idea that Wikipedia might be interpreted as an on-going example of Leibniz's 1700's encyclopedic project is something I find exciting.

I wonder if you could help me regarding the 'Characteristica Universalis' article. Under the 'Metaphysics' section the following two sentences are found:
The writings of Alexander Gode suggested that Leibniz' characteristica had a metaphysical bias which prevented it from reflecting reality faithfully. Gode emphasized that Leibniz established certain goals or functions first, and then developed the characteristica to fulfill those functions.
If you had a citation for this, or even a pdf of the exact place where Gode states as much, I would be extremely extremely grateful - the point in question could really assist some research I'm doing.
I'm new to wikipedia, but hopefully you'll see this and be able to reply!
