Scavenger is a web based community where Scavengers can give away or search for unwanted items. The concept is quite simple - rather than throw away or even waste valuable space keeping unwanted items, consider the alternative option of giving them away to someone who actually wants them.

Scavenger aims to facilitate this forward thinking concept by allowing members to upload their unwanted items. Fellow members can then browse through the categories and search for an item of interest.

Under no circumstances does money become involved! All transactions conducted through Scavenger are free of charge for all parties involved. You didn't want the item, so should you really charge for it? We don't believe so.

And of course we did find another pretty cool benefit from all of this... It appears it is not that bad for the environment either. In fact the less we throw away and the more we give away, we could actually be contributing to both the environment and our local community. We believe that by encouraging people to use Scavenger as a method to give away items, will reduce the strain local councils currently have with trying to deal with wastage. Everyday Sofas, fridges, wardrobes are all being thrown in a skip or landfill site. When in fact there are several people within the same community who require these exact items. Here at Scavenger, we just feel it makes a lot of sense to provide a reliable and easy to use platform to make this relationship work..

Intentions edit

The intentions of Scavenger are to get everybody working together, helping each other out and doing a little bit for our stressed and strained planet! The Scavenger movement is aimed at moving away from the throw-away society that we know today, and looking to society where precious resources are only used when needed, and not used or the sake of quick commercial gain.

Membership edit

Anybody who is currently residing in the UK can join, including businesses. The more people using recycle networks the greater the impact they will have.

The term scavenger or waste picker has often be used a derogatory term in the past. But Scavenger.org.uk intend to change that. To be a scavenger should be regarded as a good thing, someone who is willing to make full use of those things which would otherwise be thrown away! A scavenger should be regarded as higher ranking than someone who wastes.

Funding edit

Scavenger.org.uk is run and developed through committed volunteers and funding from local councils, like minded organisations.

Other Recycling Networks edit

There are an ever increasing number of web based recycling networks. To list just a few; Scavenger.org.uk, Freecycle, 2recycle.co.uk, efreeko.co.uk.
