Pramod Ranjan Merh was born on 22nd September, 1934 in Varanasi. He did his matriculation from Harish Chandra Intermediate College, U.P. Board with 1st class 1st and then went on to do his Bsc. Mining Eingineering from College of Mines & Metallurgy, Benaras Hindu Unniversity, Varanasi in the year 1957. Pramod R. Merh subsequently did his Metalliferous Mines Managers Certificate of Competency from the Directorate General of Mines Safety. He is the holder of 2nd Class Mines Managers Certificate and also the 1st Class Mines Managers Certificate. Pramod Ranjan Merh is the first Mining Eingineer ever to become the Director of Raw Materials Division in Steel Authority of India Ltd.
Professional Experience : Joined Indian Iron and Steel Company Ltd.in the year 1960 as Assistant Manager at Gua Ore Mines and rose to the position of General Manager (Collieries, Mines & Quarries) IISCO IN THE YEAR 1982.
In September1989, took over charge of Raw Materials Division, SAIL, as Executive Director and on 30th December 1992, was promoted to Director ( Raw Materials Division) SAIL, by the President of India.
In SAIL,Raw Materials Division, there were 1000 Executives of different faculties and 40,000 work force working under one umbrella.
After Retirement from SAIL (RMD) in December1994, was offered a post of Chief Executive, Raw Materials Division by Malvika Steel Pvt. Ltd.
In 1998, Appointed Chief Operating Officer in East India Minerals Ltd.a subsidy of USHA GROUP.
From 2000 onwards worked as a Consultant Operations for East India Minerals till March 2010.
Pramod Ranjan Merh has been an examiner Under the Directorate of Mines Safety for a period of 6years of the paper "WINNING & WORKING". He has also been Member Board Of Mining Examination conducted by Directorate of Mines Safety under MINISTRY Of LABOUR, UNION Govt..
Merh, has Attended the WORLD MINING CONGRESS in INDIA, CHINA and BULGARIA. In Bulgaria read a paper on Iron Ore Mines as a Director of RAW MATERIALS DIVISION SAIL, INDIA in 1994.

Recieved NMDC GOLD AWARD in the year 1984 - 85 from MEAI for outsranding service rendered to Indian Iron Ore Industry.
Recieved Distinguished Alumni Award from Benaras Hindu Unniversity in 1985, in Recognition to the Development of Indian Mining Industry.
Received MOTHER INDIA International Award for Demonstrating Extraordinary brilliance and Dedication and services to promote greater INDIA - NRI Co - operation.
Received UDYOG RATTAN Award from Institute of Economic Studies for outstanding Performance in Economic Development in April 1982.
Nominated by the Institute of Economic Studies to receive Manav Seva Puraskar on 25th July 1992 at Bombay.
Received John Dunn Gold Medal from MGMI Calcutta on 12.6.1993
Received Shelter Award (8th October 1993) from Shelter Promotion Council (India) for recognition of exemplary contribution to National Development International Understanding and Understanding achivement in the chosen field.
Received International Business Excellence Award 1993.
Received Life Time Achievement Award from Directorate of Mines Safety.
