Locals of the city were required to que for their groceries before entering Robinsons Place Valencia Supermarket was limited to a certain capacity only. Aside from queuing up, they were also mandated to wear masks, and undergo temperature check and alcohol sanitization of their hands before entering the establishment.
  • March 8 – President Duterte issued Proclamation No. 922 and declared a State of Public Health Emergency due to the outbreak and the confirmation of local transmission in the Philippines.[1]
  • March 16 – President Duterte issued Proclamation No. 929 and declared a State of National Calamity due to the continued spread of COVID-19 in the country.[2]
  • March 17 – Governor Zubiri indefinitely placed the entire of the province of Bukidnon under General Community Quarantine through "Executive Order No. 2020-13" in order to prevent the entry of COVID-19 in the province. In the same Executive Order, the provincial borders of Bukidnon were also restricted against non-essential travelers and non-residents, non-essential businesses were closed, classes in all levels were suspended, and all large gatherings were prohibited.[3]
  • March 21 – Governor Zubiri placed the entire province under a stricter General Community Quarantine .[4]
  • March 22 – Mayor Huervas issued Executive Order No. 26, setting up the local government's emergency operations and the Command Center of the City's COVID-19 Task Force at Valencia City Central School. The said school was also designated as the city's isolation and quarantine facility of all persons suspected and confirmed asymptomatic and mild cases.

  • April 9 – Barangay Captain Nelson Cabaluna of Barangay Lumbayao was confirmed as the first confirmed case of the city and of the entire province.[5] The said public official was heavily criticized for attending the Matina Derby event (which was said to have caused the spread the disease throughout different provinces in Mindanao) held last March 12 in Davao City despite early advisories made by Department of Health against attending mass gatherings and after the cancellation of all Araw ng Dabaw activities in Davao City.[6]
  • April 13 – The entire province of Bukidnon was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) through the implementation of Executive Order No. 20 issued on April 8.[7]
  • April 27 – Executive Order No. 20 of Governor Zubiri lapsed after placing the entire province under ECQ; with lifting of the ECQ, the province shifted to GCQ after the implementation of Executive Order No. 21.[5]

  • September 29 – Valencia City recorded its first COVID-19 fatality. The said case came from a 64 year-old resident of Purok 2, Brgy. Poblacion.

  • May 7 – Mayor Huervas issued Executive Order No. 102 which recalibrated the city's policies to balance the impact of COVID-19 in the city's health and economy while preventing further spread of COVID-19 transmission. Curfew was moved to 10:00 PM until 4:00 AM; modified liquor ban was reinstated; and face-to-face graduation ceremonies and moving up rites were prohibited.[8]
  • June 20 – This year's first surge peaked at 451 active cases.

  • August 13 – Mayor Huervas designated the New Valencia Memorial Park in Sitio Santa Cruz, Poblacion as the new burial grounds for those have been suspected or were confirmed to have died of COVID-19.[9]
  • August 20 – The city reported a total of 172 cases in just one day, the highest since the pandemic began. With the additional new cases reported, the active cases jumped to its highest record 771 cases. All in all, the city had recorded a total of 3,366 cases, the highest in the province.
  • August 28 – The city's active cases breached the 1000 mark after it recorded another 80 cases in just a day, increasing the total active cases to 1008.
  • August 30 – The Phiippine Genome Center has detected two delta variant, one beta variant and one alpha variant cases in Valencia City;[10] this was officially confirmed by Mayor Huervas. All employees from both private and public sectors were also encouraged to get their vaccines as the A4 category is now being catered.
  • September 3 – The total of numbers of deaths in the city has breached the 100 mark.
  • September 8 – The entire city was placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with Hightened Restrictions from September 9 to September 23.[11]
  • September 12 – The city government scrambles to secure oxygen tanks for its COVID-19 patients as the oxygen supply in the entire province can't cope up with the high demand.[12]
  • September 14 – The city recorded its highest ever active cases to date, numbering at 1,500.
  • September 22 – For the first time since August 28, the number of active cases had dipped below the 1,000 mark.
  • September 22 – The total of numbers of deaths in the city has breached the 150 mark.
  • September 25 – Independent research group OCTA Research evaluated that Valencia City's covid risk status remains at critical risk despite the decline of recorded cases.[13]
  • September 26 – The city recorded 301 recovered cases, the highest number of new recoveries in a day since the start of the pandemic.
  • October 1 – The total number of active cases, for the first time since August 14, had dipped below the 500 mark.
  • October 19 – It is for the first time since July 18 that the city had not recorded no new daily cases.
  • October 20 – A total of 30,222 adult individuals have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The number comprises 19.94% of the 70% (or 151,182) target total population.
  • October 21 – For the first time since July 11, the city's active cases had dropped below the 100 mark.
  • October 29 – Valencia City was placed under Alert Level 2 until November 14, implementing the new COVID-19 guidelines placed by the national government.
  • October 31 – For the first time since May 5, the city's total number of active cases had dropped below the 50 mark.
  • November 5 – The city government begins inoculating minors aged 12 to 17 years old against COVID-19.[14]
  • December 2 – The city had reduced its active cases to 8. This has been the first time since April 2 that the city had recorded active cases below 10.
  • December 9 – The city government had announced that 55,973 individuals or 38.40% of the target population had already been fully vaccinated, while 101,668 or 69.75% of the target population had already received their first dose.
