Heads up

I have no idea if you already know, but at some point the ImageMap extension was updated and it now allows external links (see example here). (I saw your note on Brion's talk page.) Cheers. --MZMcBride 00:57, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Main Page Fair use

The Main Page is clearly not an article; it's a Portal retained at its current location for historical and convenience reasons. Any argument that it is an article would be highly irrelevant wikilawyering—and would also fail on its own grounds as the images are actually included on templates, and fair use images are also quite explicitly banned on all templates.--Pharos 18:00, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

re: move

I have little patience for going out of my way to ensure GFDL compliance- to use your language it's "external" and has nothing to do with wikipedia the encyclopedic project, and the real-world pettiness of RMS and wiki editors that demand to be recognized is ugly and unrelated to the vision of the spread of information (why a project dedicated to the unrestricted spread of information is copylefted instead of BSD or -better yet- public domain is beyond me). It's the kind of thing that I would only put up with if I were aspiring to adminship.

You got me on that condescending bit though, I was horrified to see what a veteran he was!

I don't mean to be disruptive, only defensive.. I don't think that copy-paste moving a page is a) wrong at all and b) any big deal, though I understand it can be inconvenient for deciphering a page history. For the sake of convenience and having page histories make any sense at all, I'm inclined to do page moves the proper way and go though admin channels, but still I argued (and still argue here) that the only thing wrong with copy-paste moves is convenience in tracking down changes, and the GFDL is irrelevant to our project. How nice for mediawiki that they slap a GFDL sticker on everything I type- I really don't care and will write an encyclopedia as efficiently as possible, despite copyleft restrictions.

(but again I emphasize that this is a defense of my previous defense of my actions, not a stated intent to continue copy-paste moving. I'll list for admin assistance in the future, if only to keep from irritating people who care about these things) --frotht 18:59, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

hello and thanks for the check

Hi, well seems that 81.36.173.154 was a proxy server. It is possible to check if user:Owkdi was using that proxy? I have no evidence that he is using that proxy but User:Owdki seems a puppet of a strong disruptive user and I feel that in fact is that disruptive user using the proxy. If I have to make a request can you help me in which steps I have to follow? My intention is only to know if 81.36.173.154 was User:Owdki, I know that it is impossible to know the rest. Thanks. --GillesV 03:50, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Ok, thank you. In fact there is a checkuser involving Owdki. I will add the IP and and let's hope they check it...instead of checking Maurice.--GillesV 04:06, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Bad check????

Please, I'm User:Owdki and now my account is blocked. Can you read this, please: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Owdki#Strong_reasons_to_think_that_GillesV_have_lied?

Reminder to Mentor

Hola Mentors!

Im sending you this reminder because you volunteered to mentor my students in English Advanced B as they become contributing members of the Wikipedia community. We start working with Wikipedia in earnest next week. I ask you to take a look at your entry in the Mentor Table at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors

Please update the information, esp. with what your technical and informational expertise is or, if you have decided that you no longer want to participate, please remove your information from the table. Please watch the pages associated with the project. Students will contact you via your user page and as soon as my students have user pages, I will put them on the navigation bar associated with the project.

I don’t need to remind you that your job is NOT to write their assignments for them, of course. I certainly will tell my students that… and the fact that you are volunteers that don’t have to help them… so they need to be nice. If any students misbehave (tho I don’t expect it) don’t hesistate to contact me and I will take care of it. The goal of this project is to integrate successfully into the Wikipedia community. Anyway… what I really need your help with is helping students get oriented to Wikipedia, make appropriate changes and write about appropriate topics (see Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Syllabus for assignments). I also need your technical expertise… I am only an English teacher after all! I appreciate what technology does for us but I am no technical expert!

Again, thank you for volunteering and you will hear from us again soon! Thelmadatter 20:08, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Thelmadatter

Thank you

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
Prodego did spend a lot of his busy time trying to help me. His kindliness, his help spirit, makes him to become a reference as wikipedian. Just with your attitude, you are teaching. Thanks. Owdki 02:06, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Sincerely, thanks.

PS: I activated the router firewall and I added an Outgoing IP Filtering (real headache looking for info). Now my system has achieved a perfect "TruStealth" rating.
