Ekpo Nta Amaku (born 1898) was a Nigerian author of Efik descent. E.N. Amaku as he is most commonly known was from Okpo town in Eniong Abatim, Cross River State, Nigeria. He is most remembered for writing a number of Efik literary works including proses, poems, plays etc. His most popular work, "Edikot Nwed Mbuk is still used in Schools across Calabar Cross River state, Nigeria.

Early life

Born to the family of Ikot Ikpeme in Eniong Abatim. His Father was Chief Daniel Obiom Amaku, one of the earliest settlers of Okpo town in Eniong Abatim. His mother was Madam Ekanem Ikpana. Chief Daniel, E.N. Amaku's father was a notable figure in Eniong Abatim and was one of the few literate men of his time who could read and write in Efik and English. E. N. Amaku attended Duke Town primary school and later on, the notable Hope Waddell Training Institution.

He became the Headmaster of Duke Town Primary School from 1946 to 1956.

Literary works

E.N. Amaku began his literary career in 1927. His earliest works were the school readers series, Edikot Nwed Mbuk. Each of these series contained mythical, historical, cultural information on the Efik people. Another of his books Inyang Ndem Abasi.
