Scandinavian Airlines or SAS is an American based company running flights in and out of the Stockholm Arlanda Airport that serves Sweden. SAS was the source of a major debate between the US and Sweden which led to the US annexing the airport to save the company. SAS is a fully owned member of the American Airlines group and plans to stay part of American Airlines. SAS is the flag carrier of Sweden as it is the only Swedish Airline.

History edit

SAS was created on April 25th, 2014 as a small airline based in Newark Liberty. Since Sweden did not have an airport the airline flew daily routes between New York and Washington competing with United. On May 8th American Airlines completed Stockholm-Rome International Airport. SAS pushed for this airport to be renamed Stockholm Arlanda International Airport and succeeded a day later. On the same day SAS announced plans to become part of American Airline striking outrage in the Swedish government. The government claimed that SAS was theirs and that Arlanda was theirs leading to the acquisition of many foreign airlines and the annexation of the airport by the United States.

Incidents edit

On May 9th SAS flight 101 a Boeing 797 crashed near Crimea after having a major mechanical problem.
