alex volkonsky

  Born in washington DC August 9th 1984, alex volkonsky (son of Oleg volkonsky, a well regarded russian journalist and painter) studied fine arts at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. and later went on to recieve a degree in the same field of study at the Corcoran College of Art and Design his works explore techniques of the old masters of northern europe, mainly vermeer, in conjunction with twentieth century surrealist imagery. Often pulling sources from his intimate circles of musicians and fellow artists, portraying them as outlandish and often abused members of a tortured class. Alex Volkonsky knew early on that he was not like others in his big-city environment. as a child being born into the volkonsky family, he was met with great esteem from the Russian community in Washington. when young volkonsky was only four (1988), he, his father (oleg) and mother (pamela) were featured in the washingtonian publication in an article titled: [1][2]. this attention set young Prince Alex Volkonsky on a path of self-exploratory ventures in art and as well as in music, which is also a large part  of his life. performing in numerous musical arrangements in washington D.C. Currently Volkonsky is working with the artist William Newman, whom he studied under throughout his years at the Corcoran.
