Sara Zainali Somedel (Persian: سارا زینالی صومه دل‎, born July 3, 1983 in Tehran) is the Captain of Iran National Dragon Boat team since 2006. She won 3 Bronze medals in World Dragon Boat Championships 2010 (Szeged)[1], Bronze medal in Asian Dragon Boat Championships 2010 (Wujin)[2], Bronze medal in Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championships 2017 (Venice)[3] and several medals in other international Dragon Boat events (Penang 2014, Penang 2015, Guangzhou 2015, Limassol 2015, Guangzhou 2016, Ordos 2016, Rome 2016, Bushehr 2017, Guangzhou 2017, Tehran 2017, Barcelona 2018). She also participated in World Dragon Boat Championships 2006 (Kaouhsiung), Asian Dragon Boat Championships 2008 (Penang) and the Dragon Boat event of Asian Games 2010 (Guangzhou)[4]. Since 2017 she was selected as the Head Coach of Iran National Dragon Boat women team while she is still paddling or steering in the boat. She is selected as the member of IDBF Women's Commission[5] and member of Dragon Boat Committee in Iran Canoe, Rowing & Sailing Federation. She is also the Chairwoman of Talent Identification Committee in Iran Canoe, Rowing & Sailing Federation[6]. Sara has a Bachelor degree in Physical Education & Sport Science and a Master degree in Sport Bio-mechanics both from Azad University of Tehran.

Coaching career edit

Sara Zainali started coaching in club level just after attending the international coaching courses. She led Sokkan club in several international events to achieve Bronze medal in Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championships 2017 (Venice)[3], 1 Silver & 2 Bronze medals in Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championships 2018 (Szeged)[7] and several medals in other international Dragon Boat events (Penang 2014, Penang 2015, Guangzhou 2015, Limassol 2015, Guangzhou 2016, Ordos 2016, Rome 2016, Bushehr 2017, Guangzhou 2017, Tehran 2017, Barcelona 2018).

Since 2017 she was selected as the Head Coach of Iran National Dragon Boat women team[8] while she is still paddling or steering in the boat. Sara led Iran team in Dragon Boat World Nations Championships 2017 (Kunming) and IDBF World Cup 2018 (Chongqing)[9].

Judging career edit

Sara Zainali is the Dragon Boat International Technical Race Official for both International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) and International Canoe Federation (ICF). She was selected as judge and officiated at Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championships 2014 (Ravenna)[10], Dragon Boat World Nations Championships 2015 (Welland)[11], Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championships 2016 (Adelaide) and Dragon Boat World Nations Championships 2018 (Gainesville)[12].
