Abene

Abene is a swedish manufacturer of milling machines. Abene was founded in Stockholm in 1938 by Elias Napoleon Eklund. The name was orignally AB E.N. Eklunds Mekaniska Verkstad, later abbreviated to Abene. Serial production of milling machines was started in 1942, in this year 54 machines were built.

The most common Abene mills are the VHF-2B and VHF-3. The main difference is that the VHF-2B only has power feed in one axis, whereas the VHF-3 has power feed in all three axis. The table is also somewhat longer on the VHF-3 (1200 mm) than on the VHF-2B (1050 mm). Abene milling machines have a carachteristic design, with a sloping way between the upper and lower part of the machine. The purpose of this is to move the milling head down and back when the configuration is changed from vertical to horizontal.

The company still exists, its main focus today is CNC-machines. They do, however, still have a stock of spare parts for their older manual machines.
