The AMC armored car was produced by the Armor Motor Car Company of Detroit, and first evaluated and then adopted by the 1st Armored Car Squadron, 1st Marine Regiment, United States Marine Corps.

History edit

Under the direction of Assistant Secretary of the Navy Franklin D. Roosevelt, two AMC amored cars were purchased at a price "not to exceed $5,500 each" in 1916. Later six more vehicles were purchased for the squadron. The cars were intended for amphibious landing, defense of advanced naval bases, and mobile patrolling.

The Squadron, and thus the AMC armored car, never saw combat, and the unit was disbanded in 1921.

Technical details edit

The AMC was built on a King touring car chassis with an 8-cylinder motor, and armor capable of stopping a .30-calibre bullet. The vehicle featured a 37mm automatic gun in a revolving turret.
