Cee Lo Green edit

On 7 July 2011, The Hollywood Reporter's Jethro Nededog reported that singer Cee Lo Green was joining the UK version of the show. Green is already a judge on the American version, The Voice. However, BBC spokesperson Kate Toft said that "the reports are way too premature", stating that it "is purely speculation at the moment". She carried on, "The UK press are bandying lots of names around - one of which is Cee Lo - but none of which are confirmed, it's far too early for us to be talking about who may or may not be involved - we've only really just announced the commission and the show won't be on air until well into next year".[1] Speaking to the Daily Star, Green said of these rumours, "I have been offered the coaching gig. I plan to take it. We just have to work out a schedule that is not completely overbearing."[2] However, Greens representitive, Anne Watkinsthat declined “Cee Lo Green is excited to return as a judge on the US version of The Voice for the second season, but contrary to recent reports, there is no agreement in place for Cee Lo to join the cast of BBC’s The Voice UK.” [1] [2] [3]

After singer Cheryl Cole was confirmed not to be returning to the UK X Factor,[3] many newspapers and webistes reported that Cole was considering a role in The Voice UK. A writer from Sky News stated it could be a "possibility",[4] andThe Hollywood Reporter's Mimi Turner said Cole was "thought to be in talks"[5] and that she will be "the viewers' choice to front the BBC show, and if wooed to the BBC [she] could secure the show's success for the BBC.[6] Colleague Jethro Nededog added that Cole is a "favorite to join the The Voice UK's coaches' panel" and that Cole "has recently hinted that she’s taking a meeting for something to air next year".[1] A writer from CMU Daily stated that Cole was "signed to a subsidiary of Universal UK", as Universal Music is the label partner of the show, "which might open doors for that deal to be done". They finished saying, "The BBC show would unlikely be able to match ITV on money, though given the rumour Cole walked away from ‘X-USA’ with her full series one fee in her pocket, money possibly won’t be a concern".[7]

Will Young edit

Singer Will Young was in the running to become one of the judges. According to The Sun, Young was reported to be one of the judges. A source claimed: "Will is seen as a middling star who would fit around other people".[8] In a later interview with The Daily Star, confirmed judge Jessie J accidently confirmed the lineup, revealing it was Jones, will.i.am and Young.[9] However, in a last minute change, Danny O'Donoghue was chosen instead of Young.[10] According to French media site PureMédias, Will was the "big favorite for the swivel chair".[11] Young put on his Twitter account, "The voice came, the voice went. They wanted to go more rock... Should have dusted off my Leather jacket! Hey ho, (sic)" he said, before adding: "Hang on... Just got jimmy page on the Line. I'm commiserating him." A tweet the previous night may have also been connected to the loss of role saying, "Words escape me. Life is sometimes a bitch".[10] In a interview with the Daily Star, Young stated he was "devastated" that he didnt get the job saying, "Of course I’m disappointed not to be doing the show, not to mention how it’s been handled. But the support from fans has been overwhelming. They really have been amazing."[12] When O'Donoghue replaced Will Young as a judge, singer Professor Green argued that "No-one knows who Danny is" aswell as saying to The Sun, "That's really s**t that they dumped Will for him. He would have been perfect for that job. He really knows what he is talking about when it comes to making music... I liked him.".[13]

Dermot O'Leary edit

In June 2011, The Sun reported that the BBC were trying to "poach" X Factor presenter Dermot O'Leary. O'Leary was reportedly being offered a presenting role in the show, with the "swoop" being lead by Cohen. A source said, "Danny is a big fan of Dermot's and knows he would be a great catch for the BBC. He wants to do some shiny floor stuff as well as factual programmes and we can offer that kind of wide-ranging deal". However, a BBC spokesperson confirmed that they did not want The Voice UK to be a "clone" of the X Factor stating, "We don't just want to hire people from the X Factor. This is one of the hottest tickets in town for a star right now".[14]
