A 8 February 2000 third round 1999–2000 Scottish Cup tie between Celtic and Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Celtic Park ended in a 3–1 victory for the visiting side. At the time Inverness Caledonian Thistle ("Caley") were newly promoted to the Scottish First Division, while Celtic were an established Scottish Premier League side,[1] having been runners-up in 1998–99. The result was therefore a major upset and is considered one of the most famous victories in Inverness Caledonian Thistle's history.[2][3]
Celtic manager John Barnes was fired two days later.[4] Inverness were eliminated in the next stage of the competition after losing a replay to Aberdeen.

SUPER CALEY GO BALLISTIC, CELTIC ARE ATROCIOUS! edit
As well as being a significant upset in itself, the match is also remembered for the headline "SUPER CALEY GO BALLISTIC, CELTIC ARE ATROCIOUS!" (a pun on "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious") used in the following day's editon of The Sun.[1]
The headline was written by Sun sub-editor Paul Hickson. When interviewed, Hickson evaluated the headline to be "…good, but I don't think it's that good—a nice pun".[1] In a retrospective, Scottish football magazine Nutmeg considered it to be "arguably the greatest headline in Scottish football history".[5] It was included in a 2008 Guardian listing of six great football headlines, albeit noting its similarity to "SUPER CALLY GOES BALLISTIC, QPR ATROCIOUS" published in the Liverpool Echo in the 1970s.[6]
A framed copy of the newpaper page is hung in the foyer of Caledonian Stadium.[7]
