Cancer Research Institute

Cancer Research Institute, headquartered in New York City, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to the support and coordination of laboratory and clinical efforts that will lead to the immunological treatment, control, and prevention of cancer.

The Institute was founded in 1953 by Helen Coley Nauts to continue the work begun by her father, Dr. William Coley, who pioneered non-surgical, immune-based treatments for cancer.[1]

Research Focus edit

The Cancer Research Institute focuses on immunology and cancer immunology, which aim to use the immune system to fight cancer. Ultimate goals of this research are to create cancer vaccines, antibody treatments, and other immunotherapies.

CRI supports scientists in the field of immunology and tumor immunology at various stages of their careers, from graduate students to postdoctoral fellows up to heads of major university departments, hospitals, and clinics.

Predoctoral Emphasis Pathway in Tumor Immunology
Supports doctoral students planning to pursue a career in cancer immunology.
Irvington Institute Fellowship Program of the Cancer Research Institute
Trains young immunologists at universities and research centers.
Investigator Award Program
Supports assistant professors undertaking their first independent investigations in basic and tumor immunology.

    A strategic funding program mobilizing experts in different scientific disciplines to collaborate in key areas.
  • Cancer Vaccine Collaborative
    A joint program with the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and the world’s first and only coordinated global network of academic, early-phase clinical trials to accelerate laboratory discoveries into vaccine therapies.
  • Cancer Vaccine Consortium
    An international association providing dialogue and opportunities for collaboration among pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and academic institutions engaged in cancer vaccine research and development.[2]
