Kel was born in Greer, South Carolina on October 11, 1985. She is the eldest of three children. She graduated high school in 2004 from Riverside High School before attending the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for a year and half. While at UNCG, she was the educational chair of the Wiccan Pagan Student Association and also on the board of UNCG's Pride group for LGBT students. After the year and half, she transfered to the University of South Carolina Upstate, where she majored in Biology and minored in German. She continued her support of the LGBT community while attending that school as she worked as a tutor and supplemental instructor. After graduating Cum Laude from USC Upstate, she took a year off before applying and attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst to get her Masters in Education.
