As a pianist since elementary school, Kyle Johnson has devoted most of his life to music. Born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky, he is now based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he is a MM degree candidate in piano performance at the Longy School of Music of Bard College. In May of 2012, Kyle graduated magna cum laude from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano and was an active member of Alpha Chi and Pi Kappa Lambda honor societies. Currently at Longy, Kyle holds a performing assistantship with Longitude, Longy's contemporary music ensemble and has performed with the Boston New Music Initiative. He has been attended the Brevard Music Center (2011), the Summer Institute of Contemporary Performance Practice (2013), Pianofest in the Hamptons (2013), and has participated in the MTNA Young Artist's Piano Competition (2010, 2011), the Longy Honor's Competition (winner, 2013), and the Princeton Festival Piano Competition (2013). His past teachers include Dr. Gregory Partain, Dr. Robert Marler, (currently) Dr. Hugh Hinton, and has received masterclasses from Yeol Eum Son, Chu-Fang Huang, Spencer Myer, Yehudi Wyner, Orion Weiss, and Peter Serkin.
