Childhood and education edit

My name is Kate Carter-Rigg, born in Beverley, Hull. I am daughter to Graeme Rigg and Jacqueline Hatfield. I have 6 siblings ranging in age from 30 to 13 and 3 step dads.

I gradutated from Market Weighton Secondary School, York, UK in 2006 with 9 A-C GCSE and 2 AS levels. I then transferred to East Riding College, Beverley, UK where I completed a BTEC in iMedia and a Foundation Degree in Applied Digital Media. I am currently studying BA Hons In Design for Digital Media at the University of Hull's School of Arts and New Media in Scarborough, UK.

During this course, the students are currently participating in a module called Psychology of Internet Behaviour. During the project, we have been enlisted to create and edit Wikipedia pages as an assignment which is due in March 2012. The topic in which I hope to cover for this project is Internet relationship. During this module I work with various other students including Charlotte Rose Reid, Luciana Fash and Tom Larcombe.

Outsourced Projects edit

Within my course I have been able to view numerous aspects of media for many years. During my years in education, I have been asked to assist on many live projects such as the Cage project with Aim Higher where we showed the story of a polish slave in which was a live performance using projection and video of skills acquired such as photo manipulation and enhancement, motion graphics and etc. I also edited footage for PR purposes for an International Polo Competition with sponsorship from Mercedes Benz, BMW and other major corporations. My projects also reached not only outside with companies but I also did a number of projects for my local youth club and college advertising for social and educational events as well as capturing videos and images of the events as memories or evidence. I also regularly created numerous articles for the college magazine including designs for the front cover. Albeit not all my projects are purposes for work, during the end of my first year another college student and I were chosen to participate with a cross college/university competition in which we were given a brief requesting a logo for the Federation of Colleges to the right specification.

Why Study Media? edit

I believe that media is a captivating subject as it is within the lives of everyone. In theory, our lives are based around media, whether it is the radio station we listen to on the way to work, the commercials we see on bill boards and the newspapers we read on the train, each affecting us in various ways from providing entertainment, information or even educating us on facts that we are yet to know. So becoming a part of this as a media student, my eyes were opened to the breathtaking knowledge within the subject. Learning how it works in both the theory and in practical. Although by furthering my education to the degree level I am confident that I will be able to expand my knowledge attaining new skills which will allow me to advance within this area.
