The Collection

December 2006—January 2007

December 25th

A few days before Christmas, I was trying to find the December 25 article. I clicked on it, and for some reason it displayed the following message:

"This day is Christmas, and that's all it means! GO PRESENTS!"

When I refreshed the page, the article was back to normal. I suggest we track down the vandilizer and block him. Tell me if you already did and post it on the talk page.

Help

I was on the Help article, just looking for the link the Help:Contents. At the bottom of the page, I saw a very disturbing comment, not even 1% encyclopedic content. I won't put the comment down here, but I removed it and will try to find a culprit for this vandalism. If you know, post it on the talk page.

PlayStation 3

I was recently on the PlayStation 3 article, and someone emptied the page and posted this:

"PS3 is garbage, you know it.

PWNED!

Nintendo Wii and XBOX 360 for life!"

Luckily, the VandalBot re-entered the article. If the IP address vandalizes anything more, please try to block him/her.

Wikipedia:Userboxes/Games

I was on Wikipedia:Userboxes/Games, just trying to check up on some userboxes. When I arrived, there were only three userboxes on the page, all about chess.

I quickly reverted the page back to its original state. Apparently, they wanted all userboxes to be advertised on the subpages of some userpages. This would be very confusing to the users, let alone annoying.

Looking for a certain page, I stumbled upon th Image page. Surprisingly, it had been vandalized by Nickcasey10.

I quickly reverted it, for Wikipedia is not a blog. NickCasey10 will be warned.

Cancún

It's only one line of vandalism, but anything can be affective.

At the end of the Nightlife section in the Cancún article, there was one comment about spring break, which went something like this:

"spring break yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!"

I removed it, but keep an eye out for anything like this.

Zimbabwe

This is a bit weird. On the Zimbabwe article, I found this sentence:

"i love heather"

Okay, I have two things to say:

1. You should admit that face to face, not post it on an encyclopedia.
2. Who the heck is Heather?

Whoever posted that, remember that. Wikipedia is not a social website.

Teal Marchande

I am a member of WikiProject Nickelodeon, so I was surfing some "back pages". ^{(Pages not usually seen)} Then, I stumbled over this on the Teal Marchande page:

she is very cool

Another opinion, another edit. I removed this. Remember, back pages can be vandalized easily, without notice for months. Check them often.

Zoey 101

As I said above, I am a member of WikiProject Nickelodeon, so I usually surf those pages. On Zoey 101, I found this:

Zoey 101 go on to drake and josh bit

I have no idea what that means, so (force of habit) I removed it.

The Naked Brothers Band

I was working on some NBB pages, and I found this:

"The Band of Coolness"

Removed it. No purpose for clutter like this, especially on a disambiguation page.

World of Coca-Cola

I was on the World of Coca Cola Museum page, when I found this (recent) edit by an IP adress:

How To Clean Up Vandalism & Vandals

Cleaning It Up

There are many different ways to clean up vandalism on Wikipedia. The most easy way is to just open up the edit window, highlight the text that isn't supposed to be there, and press DELETE on your keyboard. Save the page, and done is done.

Or you can go to the history log, and see the version of the page before it was vandalized. Click "edit" and press save (don't do anything else). The page will have been reverted back to normal.

If you want to set up a collection of all your cleanup, create a subpage, like this one. If you dedicate yourself to cleaning up the clutter, you may get a special award called a Barnstar. And that, my friend, is to show you that you've done the best you can.

Nabbing the Vandals

If you don't just want to clean up vandalism, but you want to be the vandalism police, follow these steps.

1. Check the vandalized page's history. Find the user who vandalized it.

2. Go to that user's talk page. Now here's what you might have to do:

a. If the user is new to Wikipedia, or hasn't been warned, leave a friendly message explaining what was wrong with their change and what could happen if they do it even more.

b. If the user has an extensive history, consider reporting him/her to administrators. They're the only ones authorized to block someone from Wikipedia.

3. Watch the user carefully afterwards. Check the contributions often. If they've left or understand what they did wrong, move on to other vandals in other places.
