No idea why I got a message from you. I like monkeys, sure, but I haven't edited anything at all on Wikipedia, monkey or otherwise. Kind of confused.I don't even know how to edit, even right now I'm kind of wondering how this talk page works.

Matthew 5:10 Syndrome edit

Thanks for the note on my talk page, it alerted me to the afd. As one who shares an often dry and sometimes cynical wit, I was able to appreciate the humor on one level or another. Perhaps there could be a more encyclpediac presentation of the underlining idea represented in one of the Athiest pages? I haven't looked at them really much enough to know if there is a place or not.

Also, thankyou-thankyou-thankyou for writing an article on chilli powder. You are a dear soul. LambaJan 22:39, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

Thank you edit

Hi Joy, thank you for reverting 205.188.117.13's vandalism to my user page! Mushroom 03:36, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

??? edit

I recieved a message from you telling me that I had edited a page and "added nonsense" I haven't edited a page to my knowledge. If I have please bring that to my attention by showing me the specific page. Good Day.

  • I'm answering here because I suspect you may be using a dynamic IP address. If that's the case, someone else may have "added the nonsense" while using the IP address you're editing from now. If you weren't the intended recipient, then don't worry about the message--it was from WAAAAYYY back in April, anyway. Joyous | Talk 04:28, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Thank u for everything!!!

Please cease bag editing edit

There is a reference to bag as a derogatory term, as described in the previous entry on wikipedia. Since you cited urbandictionary.com, check definition 13 of bag. That is a shortened version of the description of bag as a derogatory term as listed on wikipedia. It's useful information, and as I know people who use the term bag as an expletive, I'd say the author was not likely to be just making it up.

bag mediation edit

Hi Joy,

I've put in a request for informal mediation at bag... though the anonymous guy who posted just above me on your talk has a point -- bag may be better suited for wiktionary. Janet13 18:30, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I know what you mean. What I meant was that the topic of that discussion was regarding my new user talk format, not referring to actual new users. I have changed the wording so that it is crystal clear.--Jay (Reply) 19:31, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

Interesting ... I'm having a look right now. I've seen this before, where someone oscillates between "good" edits and vandalism; it's one of the hardest situations to manage. I'll check. Cheers, Antandrus (talk) 03:38, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Question edit

Regarding this edit - you removed a number of interwiki links, deleted section of informations, and introduced at least one grammatical error, but the edit summary simply stated you were removing a link. I'm assuming it wasn't your intention to make such big changes and that something simply went wrong, so I've reverted it. Raul654 18:27, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Raul, thanks for reverting the edit. That is absolutely bizarre; I only removed a spammed link, as here. Is it possible for 2 people's edits to get mingled together on one dif? Joyous | Talk 18:35, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
    • My best guess is that you somehow reverted to a very old version of the page. Raul654 18:36, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
      • Ahhhh.... That would make sense, as I was tracing backwards through the history to try and find just when the link was added. I bet I forgot to edit the current version, rather than the old one. Thanks for solving the mystery. And fixing the damage. Joyous | Talk 18:39, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Okay, this is perhaps a bit overdue, but thank-you for your support in my recent RfA! I passed with a final vote count consensus of (82/1/0), which was a lot of support that I really appreciate. Vanity entries edit

Hi Joy,

I second your point of view that those are borderline vanity articles; however I feel they'd probably pass AFD. I always cough a hairball when I see someone writing an article on him/herself--it happens often in my area (e.g. living composers--have a look at Nigel Keay, Lera Auerbach, Solomon Keal for a few examples I have seen recently). You could put the Watkins articles on AFD but they'd probably pass, IMO. Best wishes, Antandrus (talk) 17:02, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

Children's Literature edit

Hi! Great to find more people interested in the children's literature articles. I'm wondering if we have enough people that we should organize a WikiProject? I've put up a proposal and I'm going to advertise it in a few places. If you're interested, check it out, edit my proposal, sign on up. ...And thanks for reminding me that the newbery medal pages needed to be added to Category:Children's literature. *g*

proconvulsant frogs edit

This is a good question. Many compounds are proconvulsants; I hadn't realized that they were found in frog skins too. pentylenetetrazol, or Metrazol, is probably the most famous of the proconvulsant compounds, and that article links to Seizure, tagged as "convulsions." So I think that's probably what I'd do.

Epidemiologists realize that not every epileptic seizure is produced by epilepsy, and yet we need a way to distinguish all seizures that are epileptiform in nature from those convulsions which are non-epileptiform in nature. There is a hole in the language where the appropriate word would be, so we refer to 'epileptic seizures' to indicate all convulsions, whether they occur in the setting of a person who meets the criterion for epilepsy (recurrent unprovoked epileptic seizures) or not.

PROD notice edit

Hi, Joy.

I believe that PROD violates the assumption of good faith. The whole idea of PROD is that it results in the deletion of an article, unless one person objects. However, for an article to exist, presumably at least one person had to think that the article should exist; OR that person added the article in bad faith. I don't see a third alternative.

PROD is going to delete articles that are unwatched, poorly understood, or written by people who don't understand about templates and the Wikipedia deletion process, which would probably include most editors. Because it does not rely on obtaining consensus, and because the process works in favor of people who understand the complicated Wikipedia deletion process, I see it as a way for the entrenched Wikipedia elite to bypass consensus in favor of their systematic bias, whatever it may be. I don't claim that it must be used that way; only that it could be.

I don't think that putting a notice on deleted articles will fix this. I also know that not everyone who uses PROD will use your notice. Therefore, I don't see any point in commenting on your notice's possible merits.

I'm also disgusted that articles are being deleted under PROD without any attempt to gather community consensus as to whether or not the process should be adopted as policy. This, to me, violates WP:POINT.

Even though we disagree, I appreciate your dedication to Wikipedia and its core values.

Vandalism edit

Hi, I am trying to get our vandal fighting system working a bit better. The user Special:Contributions/82.30.5.239 who you warned at 23:37 had already vandalized 9 articles. In cases like that I think a much stronger warning is appropriate i.e. {{subst:bv}} or {{subst:test4}}. This will enable us to get the user immediately blocked if they vandalize further and save lots of work for others reverting articles. Really it shouldn't matter what template is placed but some admins do not think they are allowed to block unless the bv or test4 messages are posted. Thanks for listening Arniep 01:12, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

  • I understand your concern. We both want the same thing: we want the vandal to stop. My goal is not to block someone, though. If he stopped after test1 or test2, that's as much of a success as if it was after test3. Perhaps more so, because a nicer message accomplished the same thing. It's entirely legal to jump from test1 to test4 and block quickly. Joyous | Talk 02:03, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. The problem is that many many admins just refuse to block unless there is a test4 or bv template even if the user has vandalized a large number of articles and hasn't been warned or has only been given one of the weaker warnings (which is quite often). Arniep 02:11, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
