Maltese Fenjas and Fenjus. The Maltese Fenjas and Fenjus were reinstated in 1998 after being abolished in 1950's. Currently, there are over 40 biological Fenjus and Fenjas in the family.The system works by having a ceremony each year whereby if the biological girl or boy is 13 they become a Fenju or a Fenja, if the children are not 13 they still attend the ceremony and they are called abelfenjas and abelfenjus. All the people taking part in the ceremony walk with a partner. If they are under 13 their partner is chosen for them, if they are 13 or above they can pick their own partner. If the Fenjus or Fenjas have a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife they normally walk with them but they don't have to.
The actual ceremony is usually held around April or March and is a big celebration in Malta which is broadcast on the T.V. This includes fireworks a procession and a band. Boys and men are expected to wear either white or blue suits with the Maltese emblem and smart black shoes. Girls and Women are expected to wear white or blue dresses with a white or blue cardigan or blazer also with black or white heels or flat smart shoes.
This years ceremony took place on Good Friday after the march in Zetun. Ellice Hanlon was made a Fenja this year walking in the ceremony with boyfriend and now Fenju Alexander Zahra. Ellice becoming a Fenja caused quite a controversy among the Maltese public. Many believed that since Ellice has lived in England for most of her life she shouldn't be made a Fenja, however the ceremony went ahead and Ellice now holds the Fenja title.
In the past five years there have been two title gains in the family not including the most recent. These were Sasha and Josiah Spitteri. Sasha is known as the wild child of the Spiteri family whereas Josiah spends most of his time in England with Ellice and older brother Xander.
Today it was officially announced to the public that Fenja Sasha and Fenju Leon have broken up after only 2 weeks of dating. The pair have been on and off for over a year and it is now clear to us that their relationship is well and truly over. However, as it has only been 6 days since Leon became a Fenju it is still unknown whether his title will be taken off of him.
Fenja Sasha and Fenju Leon were believed to lose their virginity together after Sasha became Fenja in 2015. Fenja Ellice and Fenju Alex then followed this tradition as many of the Maltese public saw as they emerged from their balcony the morning of the ceremony. The Maltese public has seen the couple on many accounts kissing holding hands and Fenju Alex surprising Fenja Ellice by grabbing and hugging her from behind.
In a recent interview, Fenju Alex did with Malta today he described Fenja Ellice as "loving outgoing and not afraid to try something new!"
In a later source, it was revealed to us that Fenja Ellice was having second thoughts about the relationship and wanted to go on a break with Fenju Alex. We now know that everything is well between the young lovers as they were seen out today enjoying a romantic walk through the cliff tops.
