The Monon Trail is a rail trail spurring from Indianapolis.

It is used as a bicycle and pedestrian trail and runs from near downtown Indianapolis, through Broad Ripple and Carmel, Indiana, and into Westfield, Indiana, a length of 15.2 miles (24.5 km).

The Monon is used by more than 4,000 people each day. The trail cost about $5.5 million to create.[1]

In the town of Westfield, Indiana the trail is beeing extended north over the abandoned Monon right of way toward Sheridan, Indiana.

An approximate midpoint on the Monon Trail is located at 39°52′44″N 86°8′27″W / 39.87889°N 86.14083°W / 39.87889; -86.14083.

The Indianapolis portion was completed in 1999 and the Carmel portion was opened between 2001 and 2002. The trail was extended into Westfield in the fall of 2008. The trail uses a portion of the Chicago-Indianapolis main line of the former Monon Railroad, which was abandoned between Indianapolis and Delphi, Indiana in 1987.
