In nearly every occupation women are underpaid compared to men with the same education background or experience, sports included. The American Association of University Women published a study showing women of color being paid up to 64% of the white man’s earnings.

Gender Pay Gap in Basketball

A'ja Wilson, 2018 WNBA number one overall draft pick signed a contract with the Las Vegas Aces earning her roughly $52,000 for her rookie season. DeAndre Ayton, 2018 NBA number one overall draft pick signed a contract with the Phoenix Suns earning him roughly $5 Million for his rookie season. [2] This comparison shows the substantial gender pay gap in professional basketball.
