John Coonrod is vice president and chief operating officer of The Hunger Project, a global nonprofit based in New York City, where he lives with his wife Carol. Trained as a physicist, Dr. Coonrod worked for Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory until 1985, when the African famine led him to a career change.
