Hey, Jason (the redux)

It seems that old friends just keep on popping up everywhere. I love Wikipedia; it is truly amazing that, in spite of the sheer amount of idiocy and stupidity prevalent across the Internet, it just keeps on getting better. The hardware seems a bit slow occasionally, though. If I had more specialized knowledge I'd do editing besides video-game related pages and stuff regarding minor typos :). Take care and God bless. Thanks for the warm welcome dude. Yeah I can see I obviously got off to a bad start. Stupid idea of mine to right my first article about the thing I knew most about (not sarcasm). Yeah well the Star Wars thing and the Genetic Wuz thing is the same to me: Is this page usefull? if not then chuck it. WP Carey

Jason, my comment about debating Carey's article while giving the porn starlet overwhelming support was not directed at you for putting the article on VfD. Bad stubs can do that to anyone. It wasn't even specifically directed at the two editors who voted to delete after it was pointed out that he had contributed $50 million (although I think it should have been pretty clear by then that he is notable). Its more about my amazement that we continue to give recognition to fictional characters, individual episodes of TV shows and porn actresses while still quibbling over whether Prof. Snowdon who has published dozens of papers, Mr. Janak who has his artwork on display in a dozen countries on three continents, or Mr. Carey, whose name will live on in the W. P. Carey School of Business at ASU, are notable. Once the information is out, I just can't understand how people vote. We have room for stuff that would not even get a footnote in Brittanica and yet feel compelled to protect Wikipedia from invasion by real professors, authors and business people. Red Herring Artists & vfd

Jason. Thank you for your considerate reply after the vfd for red herring that you invoked was terminated as inconclusive. You were right to pick up on my doubts that were expressed in the opening post - I was and still am, very aware of how fine a line it is to give information that is close to your own sphere of activity without it being self interest. I am glad that you too agree that the case for red herring's small page is reasonable.

Thanks too for your encouragement for me (or others) to develop the page further. I am reluctant to do more to the page because including more of the several hundred artists that have been in red herring would probably make the case for the page being considered vain stronger.

I would welcome any suggestions that you might have regarding how I might add to the subject without falling into the trap of it seeming to be publicity. the problem with most of the facts involved with the studio is that they usually centre on the activity of the individual's careers as artists which certainly do tend to look like vainglory when described - especially when the work has been sponsored by major pharmecutical companies and the like. It would probably help my case quite a lot if a few of the artists at the studio were dead (I'm sure you've noticed that dead artists always seem more legitimate somehow, a hazard of the job i guess) but fortunately most are still going strong. Having said that various members of the group have exibited around the world and are associated with fairly major pubilc art work I'm sure that it would be possible to fill in a few more salient details.

Sexual harassment

Hello there, I'm the one of the founders of an organization that assists sexual harassment and stalking victims. I simply removed, or revised the information that was incorrect based on the legal definitions of sexual harassment, and research and statistics on sexual harassment. All of this information was personal opinion being presented as fact. For example, it is completely, and legally, false that behavior being deemed as sexual harassment is determined by the gender of the recipient. Sexual harassment has *nothing* to do with gender; sexual harassment is about the abuse of power. Men get harassed, too, and their numbers are growing. Also, the statement that said that most charges of sexual harassment are false, is also, well, quite false and misleading.

All of the changes I have made can be checked against the information presented at the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) website and the numerous other legal and resource websites that focus on this topic. Most of the additions I made to the definition are adapted from the EEOC's website: http://www.eeoc.gov/types/sexual_harassment.html YOu might also want to check out http://www.de.psu.edu/harassment/ for more information, and http://www.sexualharassmentsupport.org/myths.html for a list of myths about SH. (THe "myths" list is from a pamphlet written by the federal government.)

Sorry if you feel the removed information was useful. I only did so because these were personal opinions being presented as factual. Sexual harassment is a very controversial issue, and I think that most of the arguments about it are quite interesting. However, your page is ranking rather high in some search engine results for "sexual harassment." Since this is an "encyclopedia," and I know for a fact people use it for research purposes, I would hope you would feel a responsibility to be sure that information being presented as factual is indeed factual. While I thank Wikipedia and the contributors for the article on my label, this is my response to your vote. Besides Jim Hellwig (a fellow conservative), other wrestlers serve the Lord, but identify him as Jesus Christ. Jim's former partner (Sting) Steve Bordan, A.J. Styles, Shawn Micheals, "Millon Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase, (NWO Sting) Jeff Farmer, The Road Warriors, Nikita Koloff, Tatanka, and Vince Russo. On top of that, Ric Flair grew up in church and his Dad was a deacon (according to his autobiography). Plus, as a fan of Gene Simmons, he was once an unknown, but he went against the odds and helped KISS grow. He now has his own label and he signs others, from the money he made in his own career. Just because a record label is religious, doesn't mean it can't grow, the way Gene Simmon's did his. Granted Wikipedia isn't a democracy, but the minority has a right to speak. You have written a very civil response; I thank you for that. I appreciate your candid diction and honest thoughts. However, I would take exception at the content of your paragraph: simply because a wrestler or any other public figure claims that they "serve the Lord," or call the ideal or person that they follow Jesus Christ does not make them Christians - or rather, it only does so in the most nominal and technical way.

Ric Flair grew up in a church... so what? So did Jerry Falwell, but he preaches a message of racial, religious, and societal intolerance, anger, and hatred. I can't judge for others, but, speaking for myself, the attitudes and themes expressed in professional wrestling are those that I find distinctly destructive and against what most holy books - including, specifically, the Bible - proclaim as the character of God. The proliferation of sexuality and violence within the "professional" wrestling industry - used as promotional gimmicks, to lure viewers to the pastime - only support my hesitance to label any fully conscious promoter of the sport as a man living in a way which Jesus Christ (not to mention Mohammad, Buddha, or any Hindu incarnation) would support.

The thrust of my argument against your points is not directed against the independent business model adopted by Ric Flair or Gene Simmons. It is against the linking of "Professional Wrestling" with Christianity. It is tantamount to linking the Beatitudes of Christ with the viciousness of The Crusades: while both come in the name of God/Y-W-/Allah, the origins of the two come from far disparate sources, linked only by the common cultural misconception of one and the institution of the other.

Again: I appreciate your openness. Many more Wikipedians could stand to learn a great deal from your attitude. And you are right - the minority has a right to express its opinions, else there occurs a Millian Tyranny of the Majority. jglc | t | c 05:22, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Sorry if you were offended by linking professional wrestling to Christianity. Just remember, since Vince McMahon and others admitted wrestling is planned out, the plots are called story lines. Pro-wrestling tells a story and every story is based on something. Religious references are found in Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and the upcoming Chronicles of Narnia. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and the Chronicles of Narnia (which, actually, has been around since the early 1950s; I assume you refer to the movie adaptation when you claim that it is "upcoming") are all extended metaphors or allegories. Professional wrestling - while not a scam - is solely commercial. I would strongly question any parallels to be drawn between C.S. Lewis and Ric Flair. Perhaps Matthew 7 phrases best the point I am trying to make - "every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit." Hi1 Thank you for your praise on mine and my dad's talk pages! What I try is, well, wikipedia is serious and bureocratic as it is, so I always try to make it have a fun, lighter place where everyone can have a small laugh at least, a pl;ace where they can forget their daily pressure spoilers!

As far as having my dad here, Ive been on this, what I call globalization of wikipedia campaign. Ive unsuccessfully tried to get medical doctors, politicians, show business and sports world people I know to join the pedia because that way they can bring their more trustable knowledge into these areas and improve our pedia in a positive way. My dad, I thought he'd help with military knowledge because he was in the Marines, and it turned out that he's done an excellent work in Puerto Rican culture instead, not touching the military information we have! LOL! Well, I gues what they say, when it starts good, it all ends good!!

Thanks for making the article in Polish yesterday. However, the best way to get attention to such articles (Wiki gets four or five a day) is to tag them with {{notenglish}} and leave a note at WP:PNT.
