Synopsis

edit

Season one begins with the discovery of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee)'s body. Laura's murder bares similarities to another case a year prior and FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) is sent to investigate. Cooper befriends the local Sheriff Harry S. Truman (Michael Ontkean) and other residents of Twin Peaks. As the season progresses, Cooper discovers that the town's residents are leading double lives and hiding secrets, some relating to Laura Palmer's death.

Laura Palmer's parents Leland (Ray Wise) and Sarah (Grace Zabriskie) mourn their daughter's death and Leland's mental state rapidly deteriorates, suffering nervous breakdowns throughout the course of the season. Laura's best friend Donna Hayward (Lara Flynn Boyle) and Laura's boyfriend James Hurley (James Marshall) console each other while their schoolmate Audrey Horne (Sherilyn Fenn) attempts to aid Dale Cooper's investigation by infiltrating One Eyed Jacks, a casino and brothel located across the Canada–United States border. Meanwhile, Catherine Martell (Piper Laurie) and Benjamin Horne (Richard Beymer) plot to burn down Josie Packard's (Joan Chen) sawmill for the development of a real estate project.
