New York City drinking water is known for how impressive its quality is. Each day it gets delivered from reservoirs that are in Upstate, NY. This water is consistently winning taste test awards against any other New York water sources as well. “New York City Water Supply.”. [1]
When New York City began to rapidly grow, so did its need for a larger and more reliable supply of water. People asked the question, "Why not use the Hudson River?" The answer to this is that the Hudson is a tidal estuary that extends 150 miles north. Untreated sewage was also being discharged along any point of the Hudson. Water would also need to be raised many feet by very powerful pumps above the river to deliver it to New York City. [2]
