Ayaz Jokhio edit

Ayaz Jokhio is a visual artist, poet and writer. He was born in Sindh. He spent his early life in Mehrabpur, which is a small town in interior Sindh.

He has been creating works which find its roots in poetry and the field of art itself. He is no doubt an artist of very high calibre. His field of interest ranges from literature to poetry to arts and beyond. His subjects and his techniques, (according to himself) changes every time. His way of looking into any subject in a way to dissect it into the tiniest bits and then putting it together in a very simple way tells us about his genius. He throws puns on the art. He celebrates it too.

In his own words, "...I believe, if you can’t surprise yourself, how do you expect to surprise anyone else?..."1.

He is currently teaching at Beacon House National University's Visual Art Department. He did his bachelors in arts from National College of Arts, Lahore.

He had been selected for Artist Residency in Germany, Schloss Solitude. The works produced during this residency look into the field of art and its articulation ways. How art works are being offered in a certain way and we are bombarded with ideas of how to look into art. He challenges this attitude in a very subtle way. During this residency he produced works which are all diptychs. Each diptych have a large canvas in rectangular shape with title of the work written on it with the usual info i.e. title, medium and size. And the work itself is a small piece done either in paper collage or oil paints. So by changing the cliche position of Title of the work to be the Work and the Work taking the place of the Title, he is challenging the habits of viewers and of the art world, where any art work is usually accepted or worshipped by the title or its author's name. By doing that he is also remarking on the artist's community for being producer of this kind of art which can only be understood by reading about it. The way he produces this work is poetical/anarchaist in nature too.

He lives and works in Lahore, Pakistan.
