My name is Haley and I am not a freshman at Georgia Southern University. I came to Georgia Southern as a freshman in Fall 2010, but ended up having to go home the first week in November due to being diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I went through four chemo treatments and was declared in remission in late February 2011. I am now as healthy as ever and back at Georgia Southern. I could have chosen to go to a number of other colleges after my bump in the road, but I decided to come back to good old Georgia Southern. I love how it is located in such a small town. I am the farthest thing from being a city girl, so Statesboro is my kind of town. I also like the fact that it is just far enough away from my hometown. I'm from Suwanee, Ga, which is about three and a half hours away from Statesboro. Not too far, but not too close. Back in Suwanee, I went to South Forsyth Highschool for four years. I was a Varsity cheerleader for all four years and also a member of HOSA, FCA, and DECA. I was closely involved with the Special Olympics and I also graduated with a Dual Seal because I was involved in the work study program for two years.

My major is Child and Family Development and I am very excited and determined to become a Child Life Specialist. When I began my journey with cancer, I was terrified. I didn't know what to expect and I didn't know how I was ever going to be fully prepared for what was to come. Then came along a wonderful Child Life Specialist who explained everything to me and made me feel unbelievably comfortable. I think it is such an incredible career and you get to touch so many lives. I have experienced what my patients will be going through, and I think it would be very helpful to know how they are feeling personally.

I have written the article on Emily Geiger. I found this topic extremely interesting. I decided to write about her mainly because as it turns out, I am related to her. She is an American Revolutionary War heroine who was put in a very dangerous cicumstance and literally ate her way out of it. No, really, she ate the message she was supposed to deliver to General Sumter so she wouldn't get caught with it by the Tories. It is so cool to me that I am related to someone as brave as her. I would be open to writng another Wikipedia article, and I plan on improving my most recent one on Emily Geiger.

Relationship to Technology edit

I am not neccessarily excellent with technology, but I am pretty good with it, and I pick up on things pretty fast. I am definitely an expert with Blackberrys and iPhones. I own a Blackberry Torch. It isn't the best phone in the world, but it's managable. I used to have an iPhone until I completely shattered the screen. After that happened, I decided to try out the Blackberry. Another type of technology I know how to use is Microsoft Word. I have been using Microsoft Word for a very, very long time now due to school, and I think that I am extremely good at using it.

Philosophy of Wikipedia edit

Writing my article on Emily Geiger was the first time I used Wikipedia. I haven't used Wikipedia as a source for any classes I have taken in the past, however, I believe it is a reliable resource after learing more about it from my English 1101 class. Seeing as articles must be verified and are capable of being put up for deletion, I believe that Wikipedia should be considered reliable. In the past I used Wikipedia to look up information on things I was interested in, or things I wanted to know more about. Now, I feel that I will use Wikipedia for more than just personal reasons.

Languages edit

I am fluent in American English. I can also speak and write in sarcasm.

  • Photography: I grew up watching my dad take pictures of everything and documenting my life through photos. When I turned sixteen, my dad gave me a Nikon D40 camera and that's where it all started. I started taking pictures of everything, like my dad, and I still do today.
  • Fashion: I have an addiction to shopping. I always want the latest things in the fashion world, and when I am determined to get something, I make it a reality. Therefore, my closet is jam packed with enough clothes to cloth an army- a very well dressed army, that is.

  • Grey's Anatomy: I love a good story involving a medical mystery.
  • Glee: Go ahead, call me a "gleek", but I absolutely love this show.
  • Pretty Little Liars: My very favorite show. A murder mystery.

  • Competitive cheerleading: I cheered for nine years and I wouldn't have it any other way!
  • Italian food: I am part Italian. Anything involving carbs is generally one of my favorite foods (bread, pasta, etc.).
  • Anything involving family: I am a big family person. I am at every family get together (which happens to be very often) and I enjoy every minute of it. I have a big extended family and I am very close to each and every one of them. My grandma is my best friend. Not many people are blessed to have such a close relationship with their grandmother, and I am so thankful that I do.

  • Mean people: Unless you give me a reason to be mean to you, I am one of the nicest people you will ever meet!
  • When people are slow to respond to a text or phone call: If I use some of my time to contact you, I'd appreciate a little of your time as well.
  • When people don't use their blinkers: It takes less time to flip on your blinker than it does to make a turn...just use it!
  • When people don't get my humor: Sarcasm isn't for everyone, I guess.
  • When people suck at grammar: We learned it in elementary school, people! Everyone should know the difference between there, their, and they're and your and you're.
