About Me edit

Hello! I'm a college student at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology who loves to learn. I've lurked on Wikipedia for years but I only just decided to get involved with it. I came to the realization that I was reading hundreds of articles a week. After I realized that, it dawned on me that I wasn't giving anything back in return for the knowledge I was gaining. Besides that, I also strongly agree with the idea of free knowledge for all. I decided that I wanted to help out the cause in any way I could. In the future, I'd like to create a few articles that I notice to be missing; for now, though, I'm just doing small copy edits so I can learn the syntax for writing articles. I'm also interested in counter- vandalism. This is partially because I don't want the reputation and accuracy to be tarnished. The other reason for that interest is that, let's be honest, sometimes the vandalism is kind of funny and I like to see how people abuse the gift that's been given to them. Don't worry though, I always fix it after a quick laugh.

  • My two most visited articles are Timeline of computer viruses and worms and Timeline of programming languages.
  • I play a special game where I choose an article and only read articles that are explicitly linked in that article or subsequent articles. I try to get to a certain topic this way.
  • My username comes from my nickname: The Gub. This name is based on a misspelling of my real name. My friend accidentally called me Gubter over text. This was eventually shortened to Gub.
