Scooby-Doo (born Scoobert Doo, April 7th 2003) is a talking Great Dane and lifetime member of the Crystal Cove travelling paranormal detective agency Mystery Incorporated. Doo is best known for being involved in the cases of Emmanuel Raffalo and Bud Shelton, both criminals operating in Crystal Cove who created “monsters” as a cover for their illegal activity.[1] Doo was initially adopted by Norville "Shaggy" Rogers, before the formation of Mystery Incorporated in 2004.[2] One of the most recognisable faces in America,[3] Doo has been the face of a multitude of product lines and a colloquially titled cartoon series.[4]

Scooby-Doo is more widely known worldwide for his successful snack food brand Scooby Snacks, a commercial collaboration between Mystery Incorporated and Kellogg's.[4] Recently there has been an ongoing legal battle between Mystery Incorporated and Kellogg’s over the legal status of Scooby Snacks, with Doo claiming that Kellogg’s unlawfully poached the rights to the Scooby Snacks trademark as to cheat Doo & associates out of all profits.[5] Kellogg’s has denied such claims and provided considerable evidence to the contrary[6], with the feud causing damage to the public image of both parties involved.

Main article: Study of Scooby-Doo’s speech

Scooby-Doo’s biology is a significant point of interest for to scholars, being the only known dog in history to speak understandable English.[7] Discussion on the subject has primarily revolved around whether or not Doo’s speech is an inherent trait or a potentially teachable trait, and whether such a trait is wholly unique to Scooby-Doo. A prevailing theory is that Doo is not in fact a dog, but a previously unknown species with the same biological capabilities as humans.[8] When asked about this at the premier of Scoob, he replied with “Roh Romment”.[9][10]
