User:Filll/AGF Challenge 2:2.2 Readers will find the article far more informative with an image that they associate with this organization

  • It is a fact of life that we are living in a world where visual communications and visual media are rapidly growing in importance and, to a substantial degree, are displacing the written word as a form of communication and information transmittal. We may not like it, but this fact cannot be ingnored. Having a particular image that is an iconic symbol of a particular organization or a subject in an article about that subject is appropriate and will help Wikipedia readers (or, I am sorry to say, Wikipedia viewers) to better identify the subject. Many people may not remember or not have heard the name "Institute for Quantum Healing" but they will recognize the image and correctly associate the subject of the article to the story that they have seen on TV. So having a picture of the bookcover is appropriate in the article about the book and possibly (depending on the degree of the popularity of the book and the theories that it propagates) in an article about the institute. I would view this case as somewhat similar to having a picture of the Oscar statuette in the article about Academy awards or a picture of the swastika in the article about Nazism. • Having the photo as a reference to the group would help a lot of readers make the connection between the two. Bare words on a page sometimes are over looked for a visual image, and this could help with readers in their understanding on the article. Wildthing61476 (talk) 20:40, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
  • In this particular case, with the image involved and the product concerned then I think fair use is defendable, as adding content to the article, after all what would be the basis of their use of the Einstein image on the masks? If Einstein was still alive then the situation might be different. Jonathan Cardy (talk) 12:19, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
