Wikipedia:Pseudo-namespace describes a technique for creating shorthand redirects to various pages. For example, MOS:BOLD is a simple way to link to Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Text formatting#Boldface. Redirects such as MOS:BOLD actually exist in the article namespace, as there is no real namespace called "MOS". The prefix "MOS:" is merely part of the page's actual title. Many such pages have traditional shortcuts within their own namespaces (such as WP:Boldface), but pseudo-namespace redirects provide a standardized format for referencing several items that fall within in a particular scope (such as MOS for "Manual of Style" pages), and often allow linking using fewer characters of wikicode.
Even though these are not redirects to articles, they are allowed to exist in the article namespace because they make it easier to link to their corresponding pages, and because they are unlikely to interfere with any conceivable article names.
Currently, there are 5 pseudo-namespaces in regular use:
- CAT: for all shortcuts to the Category namespace
- H: for all shortcuts to the Help namespace
- MOS: for all shortcuts to the Manual of Style
- P: for all shortcuts to the Portal namespace
- T: for all shortcuts to the Template namespace
Proposal edit
A recent deletion discussion dealt with a relatively new pseudo-namespace for speedy-deletion criteria. Individual speedy-deletion criteria are linked in discussions and in edit summaries with a high degree of regularity. CSD:G1 had been created, for example, to link to Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#G1.
These redirects were deleted in the ensuing deletion discussion after having only been in existence for about one month. This RFC was begun to open the question of this potential new pseudo-namespace to the larger community.
Proposed: Should "CSD:" exist as a pseudo-namespace for speedy deletion criteria?
