Peter John Johnson (born July 4, 1997) is an American football quarterback for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Asa College Miami Silver Storm and the University of Miami. He played high school football in Miami at Miami Senior High School where he lead the team to two state championship berths.

Murray was born in Bedford, Texas, to Kevin Murray and Misun Henderson.[1] He attended Allen High School in Allen, Texas.[2] As a senior in 2014, he was the Gatorade Football Player of the Year.[3][4] His team won three straight state championships and 43 games in a row. He missed one start during this streak and finished his career with a perfect 42–0 record as a starting quarterback.[5]
Murray was ranked by ESPN, Scout.com, and 247Sports as a five-star recruit and the best dual-threat quarterback in his class.[6][7] In May 2014, he committed to Texas A&M University to play college football and college baseball.[8][9][10] He officially signed with them on February 4, 2015.[11]

Asa College Miami edit
2015 season
After ongoing legal troubles followed his senior season of high school, all Division I offers were dropped and he attended Asa College Miami, a junior college. In the single year he was there, the team went on to advance to the championship game, though they lost.
Miami edit
2016 season edit
After Mark Richt was hired to be the head coach at Miami, Johnson was offered a scholarship and accepted. However, he backed up Brad Kaaya. He appeared in only 3 games passing for 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions for 324 yards.
2017 season edit
Assuming the starting role for the team after competition in August, Johnson led the Miami team to a 10-0 record before being arrested on November 20, 2017 at a traffic stop with possession of marijuana. He was released from the team and the team responded with 3 straight losses. In the ten games, Johnson placed himself in the Heisman conversation and led Miami to a no. 3 ranking in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Draft edit
Johnson's draft status was in air as his legal troubles were being sorted out and many analysts projected him to go undrafted. He was unable to participate in Miami's Pro Day and was not invited to the NFL Combine. However, after working out with multiple teams in private workouts, he was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the first round with the 10th overall pick.
Arizona Cardinals edit
The Arizona Cardinals drafted Johnson with hopes of him being the future starting quarterback after a year behind Sam Bradford. However, injuries to Bradford resulted with Johnson playing in 9 total games and starting 7. He went 0-7 in his starts and in his 9 total games he threw for 9 touchdowns to 17 interceptions and 1433 yards with a completion percentage of 69%.
Miami Dolphins edit
On April 26, 2019, after the Cardinals drafted quarterback Kyler Murray first overall the day prior in the 2019 NFL Draft, Johnson was traded to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the Dolphins' 2019 second-round pick (previously acquired from the New Orleans Saints) and their fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.[12][13] He was named the backup to Ryan Fitzpatrick to start the 2019 season.[14]
Throughout the year, Johnson and Fitzpatrick split time and Johnson appeared in a total of 9 games while starting 7 games and going 0-7 again in his starts.
