I am a journalist, historian and the author of seven books. My main field is American history. I have written extensively about the Vietnam War and Vietnam veterans, World Wars I and II, the history of the American flag, the U.S. Civil War, and other topics. My full-time job is a free-lance writer; I also teach a U.S. history class at Lord Fairfax Community College in Warrenton, Virginia.

I have contributed to the Encyclopedia Americana, the Encyclopedia Americana Yearbook, the Oxford Encyclopedia of American Political and Legal History, and the Dictionary of Virginia Biography.
