Knút Háberg Eysturstein (b. 1980) is a Faroese musician, DJ, and radio host currently living in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Eysturstein is active as a solo artist and as a member of singer/poet Petur Pólson's project, and has played keyboards in the bands Gestir and Marius. He has been active as a DJ since 2006, and goes by the alias DJ Knýtil in The Faroe Islands. As a DJ he is part of the DJ movement Undirbeat,[1] and since February 2006 hosts the radio show Rokkstovan[2].

In 2003 Eysturstein's band Gestir won the bi-annual contest Prix Føroyar[3][4], granting them gigs abroad and studio time at Lundgaard Studios in Denmark. In 2004 Eysturstein's first solo album Havsglóð was released on Tutl Records. The album received mixed reviews from Danish reviewers, a reviewer at Geiger calling him a "truly interesting songwriter."[5][6] In the United States, the record was reviewed very positively. A reviewer from the online folk magazine Rambles.net commented that "I've not heard anyone else who sounds like him,"[7] and a review from Green Man Review, specializing in folk music and culture, praised his "simple and sparse" lyrics, and "like[d] the warm harmonies and rich band sound but it also has some edgier, electric moments that add variety."[8]

In 2005 Petur Pólson released his debut album Koma; Eysturstein played keyboards and guitar, and co-wrote two songs. The same year his other (rock) band Marius won the first Faroese national final in Global Battle of the Bands;[9] Marius shared 6th place with the American contestant in the international final held at the London Astoria, England.[10]

In 2006 Eysturstein was involved with two album projects. Gestir released their debut Burtur frá Toftunum, which garnered good reviews at home and abroad.[citation needed] The band played at G! Festival in Gøta (Faroe Islands), NASA in Reykjavik (Iceland), Nord Atlantens Brygge in Copenhagen, and as support for Teitur at Store Vega, Copenhagen. Marius released the album The Sky Is Our Home, while also playing at NASA Reykjavik & G! Festival in Gøta.

In 2007 electronically minded DJ movement Undirbeat[11] started growing. In 2007 and 2008 events were held all across the Faroes. As a DJ Knút is mostly involved with electronic and dance friendly music genres such as minimal/techno/electro/house.[citation needed]

In May 2008 Eysturstein went back into the studio (again Lundgaard Studios, Denmark) to record his follow-up album, accompanied by Bogi á Lakjuni (guitar, production), Jens L. Thomsen (bass, recording), and Høgni Lisberg (drums, percussion). He played at G! Festival again, to very positive reactions.[12]

The next Petur Pólson album is to be released in 2009; Eysturstein plays keyboards and guitar, and wrote the music for one song on the album. His second solo album, These Days Will Pass, is to be released in 2009 also, with assistance from Bogi á Lakjuni.[13]
