WikiProject Michigan edit

I know you sometimes edit articles on Michigan-related items. You might be interested in the new wikiproject, Wikipedia:WikiProject Michigan. Cheers. olderwiser 20:52, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

Oops, I forgot you had already added yourself. I was just going through contributors to some Michigan categories and articles. olderwiser 21:01, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

Gratiot County edit

Where in the county did you used to live? I was formerly from St. Louis, myself. --Martin Osterman 21:11, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Heh... we all know that the Sharks were "the" team in the league, especially when it came to Volleyball and Quiz Bowl (I was a participant in the latter. ;) ) I was at SLHS for two years before moving to Indiana, so I haven't really kept up with things since I left in 1999. --Martin Osterman 02:11, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
I was at St. Louis for the 98-99 season -- the year we went to Port Huron to compete in the State competition! Good lord, is it really that small of a world?! I didn't answer many questions, but always seemed to pull a rabbit out of my hat when we needed it most. LOL --Martin Osterman 12:14, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
Heh. If you provide me a pic from your yearbook I'll probably recognize you on site. LOL I take it you still return to that area semi-often? As soon as I get a working car in January, I intend to make a few trips up that way, do some research, see old teachers and friends, and go from there! --Martin Osterman 18:46, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

Black Flies edit

dc, having backpacked in the UP and spent time in northern michigan, I have come to associate UP summers there with heavy black fly populations. There are almost no black flies in northern michigan, but lots in the UP for some reason. We wouldn't go up there until August. This applies to Porkies and Pictured Rocks and Lake Superior Provincial park in Canada. There is a difference between black flies and your common house flies. MPS 23:04, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I added a "Regional effects of Black Fly populations" section that will hopefully pass muster. MPS 14:47, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

??? edit

What's your connection to Nevada County? 132.241.245.49 02:33, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

I have absolutely no connection to Nevada County. Could you tell me why you're asking? -- dcclark (talk) 05:09, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
  • You know the best pasties in the world are made there. d: 132.241.245.49 05:16, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
Ah, no, I merely corrected a wikilink that someone else made. My only experience with Pasties are from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which are pretty darn good. :) I pay a lot of attention to the Pasty article and try to keep it looking nice. -- dcclark (talk) 05:19, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
  • oh...lol well you do good work and if you're ever on the west coast stop on in. 132.241.245.49 05:33, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Michigan Tech edit

The presentation of Michigan Tech's logo needs help, and you seem to be interested enough and experienced enough to handle it. I think the infobox ought to be presented like Carnegie Mellon's, for example, with the seal at the top and wordmark at the bottom. Tech provides these images here: http://www.mtu.edu/uc/graphic.html Thanks for your consideration. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 141.219.83.86 (talkcontribs) 18:51, 13 March 2006.

I have updated the Michigan Tech article to use the correct infobox (it was using an old one) and the Tech seal. The infobox doesn't provide something quite like CMU has (theirs is custom HTML), so there isn't any bottom image just yet. I'll work on that later. Thanks for nudging me to do this. Oh, and please make sure to sign your comments (even if you don't have an account) by typing four tildes (~~~~). -- dcclark (talk) 23:10, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Keweenaw pictures edit

Thanks for the note. I've just been going through the press room at byways.org [1] and uploading all usable images. It's a real gold mine! :) howcheng {chat} 18:01, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Douglass Houghton article edit

Thanks for the comments. All difficulties arise from ignorance on my part and my focus on substance rather than form, although I agree absolutely that standards must be maintained. I have modified existing articles (Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Charles Thomas Jackson, John Wells Foster, Josiah Dwight Whitney) and my first attempt was written from scratch (Leroy Waterman), although someone later went in and kindly formatted it. I do have an account and have now made some changes in the Houghton article, but I confess that it is unclear to me what "you need to cite specific references and wikify the article further" actually means. It is really quite complicated! For example, I don't have a clue as to how these comments will reach anyone, if they do, or to whom they are directed by my writing this. David J. Krause

I'm replying to you here, although I will hopefully leave you a ping at your user page shortly. As for citations, I mean just that -- citations within the article to strengthen the statements. You have a good list of references, although unformatted, at the end of the Douglass Houghton article. Citing those inline would be a good idea. If you need details about how to cite, you may want to look at WP:CITE. The easiest way is to simply type, when editing the article, <ref>Text to appear in the reference</ref>. That will produce a citation number in the text, and a corresponding line in the "References" section. For reusable footnotes, see the Citation link above.
So, please don't feel that I'm attacking you, because the changes to the Douglass Houghton article are really good! It's just a matter of making it fit in with Wikipedia style now. Citations will help, as will some additional wikification, and especially dividing the article into sections (such as Early Life, Keweenaw Survey, etc.).
Finally, what's your user name? I found your name! If you sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~), it will give me a link to your user page and talk page. Thanks again for your rewrite! -- dcclark (talk) 00:07, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Rhubarb Pie edit

Now it truly doesn't mention it. I don't really care where it goes, but it should go somewhere. I'll let you decide which version to revert to so we don't cross edit again. —WAvegetarian(talk) 01:23, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! I re-added your bit in the sponsors section. It's the right place -- but previous edits had left duplicate information in two sections. -- dcclark (talk) 01:28, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Change in MI Wiki edit

Hey the fact box on the Michigan page indicates that it should include water and land. (the percent water figure) So it should be 10th unless we move the water percent out of the fact box. The Wiki source you indicated is wrong if it says that the total area including water and land is 11th place....But it may be land wise in 11th place I don't know about that. What do you think? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Strunke (talkcontribs) 20:22, 11 June 2006.

I believe that consistency is important. If the List of U.S. states by area page is wrong, it should be corrected, and then the Michigan page as well. As I am on a semi-wikivacation right now, perhaps you could do that? Also, please sign your comments with four tildes {~~~~) so that I know who you are. :) -- dcclark (talk) 15:39, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

At the Gay Bar... Gay Bar... Gay Bar... edit

I figured I'd take a crack at rephrasing it. It's not that it was really bad to start with. It's just that, from a certain perspective, it sounded like a distinction was being made between ordinary/normal people & gay people. In this case, the distinction was really between gay people & Gay people. Thanks for your kind words! --Ssbohio 00:03, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey! edit

Hey, I received your last message regarding my Little Mermaid III article. I will try to add some sources and citations. Just out of curiosity, how do you link something? For example, people click on words such as "direct-to-video" and "sequel" etc?

You can contact me by using my Talk page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jteeple (talkcontribs) .

A Prairie Home Companion edit

As far as I'm concerned, your "attempt[] to make a non-POV sentence" was successful; that's the tone that should have originally been taken by the anonymous editor.

User page vandalism edit

No prob rv'ing your page for you. I just happened upon that user vandalising another page...shadowed him for a bit...and then checked his edit history. My own user page has been vandalised 49-50 times. It just comes with the territory for me...70% of my edits are vandal rv's. If it is a persistent vandal and you feel threatened by him...you can try WP:ANI. Whether it helps or not...I can't say. As for now, your User page is on my watchlist so if I see any wrong doing...I'll reverse it. Cheers and take care! Anger22 01:37, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

I blocked that user indefinitely, since the account was only used for vandalism and trolling. Let me know if someone you think might be him starts editing under a different username. --Aguerriero (talk) 20:22, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks -- he seemed just like an immature kid wandering around Wikipedia. I'll let you know if there are any more troubles. -- dcclark (talk) 16:10, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
