Fighter Within is a fighting game developed by Daoka and published by Ubisoft. It is exclusive for Xbox One.[1][2]

Gameplay edit

Xbox one Kinect has taken the gaming world into something different and new that never existed before. Fighter within only uses the technology of the Kinect but doesn’t use any controller involvement.[3] The improvement of speed and accuracy that were made on the Xbox 360 Kinect and putting it into the Xbox one Kinect opened a lot of possibilities for future gaming.[4] The technology that is found in Kinect made the gaming world more interactive than it has ever been. Kinect now is being able to read a whole body movement even the simplest gestures.[5] The most interesting concept of this game is transferring live moved of the human body and making it appear of the screen as a fighter. The same exact movement as the player do is copied on the screen, which makes punching, blocking, dodging, hooking, kicking and leaning available during the gameplay.[6] Also the special moves were added to the game, as the Ki move.[7] It is simply pulling back your arms to generate a charge, which you will use to create different special moves that cast more damage. There are different special moves as push kick, power attack, swap, combos, blocks, etc. The game also contains a variety of different character with different abilities. These technologies made the player dive into the game and experience the gaming world in a way that was never there before. [8]

Reception edit

The game was panned by critics, and holds a Metacritic score of 26 out of 100.[9] The Kinect controls were universally criticized, with several reviews suggesting problems were just as prevalent as the Kinect for Xbox 360. GameInformer gave the game a 1 out of 10, saying "Fighter Within is garbage." [12][14]GameZone's Mike Splechta gave Fighter Within a 2.5/10, stating "Fighter Within really showcases the larger problem with Kinect only games: they just don't work."[15]
