I very much like the idea of thousands of people contributing information to a huge encyclopedia in their respective fields of expertise. However, the actions of a certain editor made me realize that this only works as long as people contribute and edit articles about subjects they actually know something about. Once people without expertise or qualification whatsoever start editing whatever they come across, the whole system fails. I am now contributing to Citizendium, a project by Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger. I will keep an eye on my Wikipedia articles and help with others within my fields of expertise, but I will no longer contribute new articles.
