Biz birbirimizi yiyrouz bunlarda bizi yiyor. Türkiye portalı aday gösteriliyor yine eleniyor. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.97.47.108 (talk) 19:10, 22 January 2007 (UTC).

Zeyrek edit

Hallo Cretan, I saw that you changed the name of the article about Zeyrek from Zeyrek Camii to Zeyrek Mosque. I don't know whether this is right, since on all the literature which I know about the subject (in english, above all Richard Krautheimer) the scholars call the edifice Zeyrek Camii and not Zeyrek Mosque. This is the same also for all the other Mosques of Istanbul. Ciao, Alex2006 11:56, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Category:Armenian terrorism edit

I think there is enough material to start a category for Armenian terrorism. It starts with the Ottoman Bank Takeover, then there is the Yıldız Attempt, assassination of Talat Pasha, then diplomats and civilians murdered by ASALA and other Armenian organizations. I want to know what you think about the category.--Doktor Gonzo 14:36, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Tenedos/Bozcaada edit

Hi Cretanforever, I noticed that you moved Tenedos to Bozcaada (Tenedos) a couple of days ago. The consensus on the talkpage is that the title should be Tenedos, and accordingly I have moved the page back. If you disagree with the page title, could you please start a discussion at Talk:Tenedos? Thanks. --Akhilleus (talk) 05:29, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

There is a widespread agreement, by the way, that Wikipedia should use whatever name is common usage in English, rather than official names. This is both a service to our readers, and avoids the sometimes tricky question of who counts as "official". Our naming policy is at WP:NAME. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 21:39, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Your translation is wrong. Set Bozcaada article under the official name of the district. Cretanforever 09:39, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

  1. I see nothing relevant under Bozcaada (district).
  2. What is the correct translation?

Ratings edit

I noticed that you re-rated a bunch of random articles as top importance after you saw that I re-evaluated Tugba Karademir article. Listen, I am trying to make WPTR as efficient as possible, and that will definitely not help. Pamela Spence is not top-priority for WPTR; Ottoman Empire and Ataturk is. You know this, which makes this even more puzzling. I didn't mean any offense to Ms. Karademir with that rating, it is just that we have an immense workload for such a small number of editors. Please, it is not helping - if I have to spend my time going through importance categories instead of improving articles, that will not help anyone.. I respect your work and consider you a serious editor, so I hope you understand what I am trying to say. cheers Baristarim 03:21, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Sorry that you feel that I was being a "kabadayi" or anything, I just would like to make it easier for any new Wikipedians interested in WPTR to navigate easily and efficiently among articles. Ratings are subjective, however Pamela Spence is not top-priority, you know this :) As for the "start" rating, that is simply a wikipedia-wide article rating system. That article was a stub - if people would like to improve, it will give them the same incentive to improve as much as a "start" rating, right? I really like your work, I didn't mean any disrespect.. Eger istemeden bir yanlisim olmussa ozur dilerim.. take care Baristarim 14:15, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

PKK/Turkey edit

I tried Casualties of the Turkey-PKK conflict (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) for name of the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_Turkish-Kurdish_conflict. Now, OttomanRefence is trying.

Khoikhoi did not accept it. Khoi said that Uğur Kaymaz was a civilian Kurdish, he was killed, so it is not only PKK-Turkey conflict. But, current name Turkish-Kurdish conflict is wrong because that there is no ethnic conflict. There is a problem related to ethnic Kurdish problem but it is not directly an ethnic war. I asked the naming dispute to R.Cakır, and he said that "I think that "Turkish-Kurdish conflict" is not a good idea because it refers to some kind of civil war that does not exist yet. I would prefer 'Kurdish question (or problem, or maybe conflict) in Turkey' or Turkey's Kurdish question'. But, Khoi did not like the name because according to him not only Kurds are responsible for the conflict. He said that he would think about the name, but no suggestions came form him! I searched on the Internet, and found an article by Koç University academician Somer: "People seem to instinctively understand and fear that this time such a path may lead to a Turkish-Kurdish conflict, i.e. not only a conflict between the state and Kurdish separatists as the conflict previously was, but which involves ordinary people". from http://www.turkishpolicy.com/default.asp?show=fall_2006_somer That would be another nominee for the name: "Turkish state- Kurdish separatists conflict". Is "Turkish state - Kurdish separatists conflict" good?
If there is a voting, we should make a consensus. Any name other than current name is more suitable. But, at the last vote, people who are against the current name gave votes to different names so article's name did not change, since there were no consensus. We should refrain from this in a survey.Burgaz 11:46, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Oriental Sweetgum edit

Hi! Thanks for your note. As I noted in the edit summary, that move was because of the flora naming convention, which says:

Scientific names are to be used as page titles in all cases except the following, as determined on a case-by-case basis through discussion on the WikiProject Plants talk page:
  1. Agricultural and horticultural cases in which multiple different products stem from the same scientific name (eg. brussel sprouts, cabbage & broccoli). In such a case, a separate page with the botanical description of the entire species is preferred (eg. Brassica oleracea).
  2. Plants which are economically or culturally significant enough to merit their own page, using the common name as a title, describing their use. Example: Coffee. (A) separate page(s) with the botanical description(s) of the taxa involved, using the scientific name, is preferred.

American Sweetgum may be another candidate to be moved. It may meet the exception because of its use as an ornamental plant, but my initial decision would be to move it. Other quasi-popular ornamentals have been moved to their scientific names. The naming convention is relatively new, and we haven't made an effort to move all the pages that already exist in violation of it. What are your thoughts on moving American Sweetgum to the scientific name? Cheers --Rkitko (talk) 15:49, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

I would say that, for the naming conventions, it makes more sense to treat all the species in the genus together. I can not venture an opinion on American Sweetgum because I do not how significant the tree is, economically or culturally. Especially in the viewpoint of the people who share the same habitat as the tree of course. Regards. Cretanforever 17:07, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
True, consistency is a good goal, but some species in select genera will never be moved because they are too significant at the common name. The naming convention came about because of disagreements over which common name is most common, but some common names are so widely accepted it makes no difference if it's at the scientific name or not. Specifically, some of the hardwood trees used for furniture or other wood products are too culturally significant to move. Ultimately, I don't see much of a difference in the article title as long as there are redirects from all common names.
For consistency in each genus, we'd need someone with admin powers to move articles over redirects with more than one edit, which I often encounter. That's probably another reason the naming convention hasn't been widely implemented. Though most WP:PLANTS editors have been moving pages according to the convention when they encounter them. I found this one when I was scrolling through the bot-generated new article list for WP:PLANTS. (Nice job, by the way! It's always nice to come upon an article on that list that has the right italics, wikimarkup, taxobox, image, and a nice start-sized entry. If you ever find yourself getting too bored with your current endeavor, feel free to browse through Category:Plant articles needing taxoboxes or Category:Plant articles needing photos. That will keep us all busy for weeks!) Cheers, --Rkitko (talk) 06:00, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Erreur de transcription edit

Cher ami,

Il y a une petite erreur de transcription sur votre user page.

Let me give you the right french phrase : "Pourquoi êtes-vous ému, monsieur ? C'est moi qui devrait être ému."

I know it's hard when you don't have the right keyboard.

I also have a question for you, posted on the Kaptan-Pasha discussion page :

Writing about the on french wiki, I was looking for a biography of a Kaptan-Pasha : Kara Ali, said to have lead the expedition on Chios in april and may 1822, and died in a greek attack in june 1822. In the list, there is a gap between 1822 and 1832. No Kaptan-Pasha or no information ? Is Kara Ali a Kaptan Pasha or just a naval officer ? Thanks. You can answer there, even in english : . Major Revision (although the mummified corpses are within reach) Revisited edit

Cretanforever: Once again you have replaced Alaeddin Mosque (Konya, Turkey) with an admixture of plagiarism, solecism, and irrelevant information. Rather than adding new material, you simply restored your edit of 5 September 2007 entitled “developped”. You offered no explanation for your changes in September. This time you have offered only the disingenuous “image” in the Edit Summary box. I have kept the image as a useful addition but reverted the rest. I am beginning to suspect that a good faith disagreement about the spelling of names has ballooned, in your mind at least, into a personal vendetta. I assure you this is not the case. Turkic peoples edit

Hi. The image you uploded (ArdahanFolklor.jpg) is under question. I'm posting this, since you may like to comment on this. Regards. E104421 16:53, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

A specific issue is: do you know if the dancers are Turks or – as may be suspected, based on the costumes – perhaps a Georgian or other Caucasian folklore dance troupe visiting a festival taking place at Ardahan? Also, can you give the URL of a web page on which the image was found? I could not find it on www.yigitkonagi.com, and also not on www.ardahan.gov.tr.  --Lambiam 13:13, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
I will check. Cretanforever (talk) 15:46, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
there is no clearity on that and moreover I could not find the picture in the site. Ardahan is acity in turkey which was traditionally poulated by georgians, and Armenians and to a lesser extent by Azeris. Nowadays there is a population of people who call themselves Yerli Turks, whose origins go back to the Georgians, Hemshins or Islamized Armenians. There are also recently many Kurds in that area. But the dances and costumes shown here are very caucasian and resemble the dances over the borders in Georgia. All and all I think this is not a representative picture for the aim and we should find a picture which better represents Anatolian Turks. It is remarkable that there is not a picture which portrays an Anatolian/Istanbuli Turk there. We should find one and put it there. --Babakexorramdin (talk) 16:12, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Your meticulousness in accurate identification of these dancers as being part of this or that group of people within Turkey is touching. There is a prize of 4,000 pieces of gold to anyone who can arrive at the right association. I am tempted to exclaim in Turkish "Bunlar Kürt ulan!".
