Hi, I'm Coolie! I started editing Wikipedia articles in 2016 with the intention of fixing promotional and grammatically faulty articles, subsequently expanding my efforts to general copy editing during Guild of Copy Editors events. After taking a break from periodic editing to focus on other wikis and projects, I returned to non-sporadically editing Wikipedia articles in 2024.

While I still conduct in-depth copy editing of articles with severe structural or grammatical issues, my focus has shifted towards using JavaScript Wiki Browser to semi-automatically resolve specific grammatical and punctuation errors in a controlled manner across hundreds of articles at a time. Such fixes have included over 15,000 articles that used dashes in place of en dashes, over 9,000 with Unicode superscripts, over 3,000 with file size, bit rate, or bandwidth units missing non-breaking spaces, over 1,000 with the term 'comprised of', and over 200 with incorrect frequency unit capitalization. In making these improvements, I have at times made unintended errors as a result of not including sufficient context information in my regular expressions to specify which replacement scenarios were to be avoided. While such errors—even when quickly fixed—have been regrettable, they have been helpful for learning what to include or not include in my regular expressions to achieve optimal outcomes.

While the substantial growth of Wikipedia and its readership have been great for the international accessibility of knowledge, a downside to it has been the increased incentive for bad-faith actors to use the platform as a tool for promotion or propaganda. Because of this, I'm always on the lookout for article tone or structural issues that suggest that the article was—deliberately or not—written with a promotional or otherwise non-encyclopedic tone or structure. Whether I make efforts to resolve the issue or simply mark it with an issue template, my goal in editing any such article is its general improvement, rather than the replacement of its bias with my own. Whether it's about an edit I've made or another matter, feel free to leave a message on my talk page and I'll endeavor to respond as quickly as possible.
