Hello. I'm Clare. I've no big ambitions; just to help out by fixing things I see need fixing and know how to fix. I generally believe it's better to keep true things than delete them, although there are always exceptions. I prefer polite, gentle and self-deprecating discourse that treats people kindly even if their words are wrong; I aspire to it myself. I tend to wade in to personal arguments and try to make people refocus on the text; sometimes it leads to tears.
Eventually a pattern of contributions may emerge and I'll be able to add an impressive list of articles I've worked on here, but for now it's all casual editing of the articles I refer to in my research and leisure. I am a researcher at the intersection of culture and technology, but I'm not actively creating either at the moment. One day, maybe!
I'm usually good at MediaWiki but have little clue about the Wikipedia social norms. I have not memorised all the various WP:BLAH and regard appeals to policy without explanation as an attempt at dominance, and push back. Please be kind, this is rather frightening. And you won't like me when I'm frightened.
