Aristides Haralambous is a Cypriot national hero. He was born in Pedoulas village, and, while still a student, was an active member of EOKA (National Organization of Cypriot Fighters). Aristides was killed on March 11, 1956, in an ambush against British mobile patrolling soldiers, when the bomb he was poised to throw at them exploded in his hands. The ambush took place in a road curve two to three kilometres outside Pedoulas village at the point where today there exists a monument to his memory. His name, together with the names of all the other heroes killed during the liberation struggle of EOKA, is inscribed on a wall plaque in the "Museum of Struggle", in Nicosia.[1][2][3]
