This is a list of traffic signs in Slovakia arranged and numbered according to the Model Letters to the Decree of the Ministry of the Interior no. 30/2020 Coll., which implements the Act on Traffic Signs. The decree was valid from April 1, 2020.

The standard font Tern is used for marking. From February 1, 2016, the technical requirements are set by the technical standard TNI 01 8020 (formerly ČSN and STN 01 8020).

The numbering of brands changes with almost every new decree, even though the basic principles have remained the same for a long time since 1976. Older lists of traffic signs were contained in previous decrees:

  • The first six types of Czech-Slovak warning signs were introduced by Government Regulation No. 203/1935 Coll. n. until. with effect from November 1, 1935
  • Government regulation no. 100/1938 Coll. n. until. other types of signs and signals were introduced from May 1938
  • During the Second World War and the Slovak State, the Slovak markings differed from those of the Czech Protectorate
  • Post-war Czech-Slovak decrees were published in the Official Gazette, not in the Collection of Laws
  • Decree of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czechoslovak Republic 141/1960 Coll., effective from January 1, 1961
  • Decree of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czechoslovakia 80/1966 Coll., effective from January 1, 1967, effective from July 1, 1971 amendment 80/1966 Coll. in connection with the introduction of the first highway
  • Decree FMV 100/1975 Coll., effective from January 1, 1976. Introduced numbering of road signs using a letter indicating the type of sign followed by the following number. The letter corresponds to the designation of chapters in previous decrees. Prohibition and command signs have been divided into separate chapters.
  • Decree of the Federal Ministry of the Interior of the Czechoslovak Republic no. 99/1989 Coll., effective from January 1, 1990, amending decree 267/1994 Coll. from November 1, 1994, signs were introduced to indicate the beginning and end of the village in the language of the national minority.
  • Decree of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic no. 90/1997 Coll., effective from April 1, 1997, amended by decrees 337/1997, 88/1999, 178/1999, 204/2000, 462/2000, 96/2001, 51/2002 (the changes do not concern traffic signs ) and 342/2002 Coll. (with effect from July 1, 2002, several new traffic signs, introduction of variable traffic signs), canceled and replaced by decree 225/2004 Coll.
  • Decree of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic no. 225/2004 Coll., effective from May 1, 2004, amended by decrees 227/2006 Coll. (4 new brands with effect from April 29, 2006) and 226/2007 Coll. (does not apply to signs), repealed by Act 8/2009 Coll., on road traffic
  • Decree of the Ministry of the Interior no. 9/2009 Coll. entered into force on February 1, 2009. On this date, there were changes primarily in the categorization of priority-adjusting signs and informative signs. The lane markings have been reassigned from informational signs to command signs. Marks with a single binding form were consistently differentiated from marks whose depiction in the decree can be changed. The names, meaning or form of some brands have changed (more or less), several new brands have been added.
  • The technical standard TNI 01 8020 entered into force on February 1, 2016. On this date, there were changes primarily in the design of the signs and the Tern font used. Some names, meaning or appearance of some brands have changed, several new brands have been added.
  • From March 1, 2018, STN 01 8020 Traffic signs on land roads is valid, which replaces STN 01 8020 from July 2000 and TNI 01 8020 from February 2016 in its entirety. Appendices with exact depictions and dimensions of traffic signs and devices have been deleted from the standard. STN delegates these provisions to departmental technical regulations.
  • New sample sheets 6.1 (Vertical traffic signs) are valid from 1 September 2019.
  • From 1 April 2020, the new Decree No. 30/2020 Coll.
  • New model sheets 6.3 (Light signals) and 6.4 (Guided traffic devices) are valid from 8 March 2021.
  • Updated sample sheets 6.1 (Vertical road signs) apply from 1 October 2021. The validity of the new VL 6.2 is awaited.
