  • Lex appears appears in the novella Smallville: Haunting, where he hires scientist Janice Brucker to create a chemical compound based on the radiation emitted by the meteor rocks, in an effort to isolate the positive influences the radiation has and remove the negative consequences that result from prolonged exposure. Eventually, Lex learns that a ghost is haunting the home of the current Kansas Governor, which is the home Janice and her daughter are staying. The Governor threatens to blackmail the Luthors, because of Lex's assistance in uncovering details the Governor does not want to be made public. As a result, Lex covers up the truth behind the ghost's appearance, which has to do with an unsolved murder at the Governor's childhood home.[1]
  • Lana appears appears in the novella Smallville: Haunting, where she befriends Ginger Brucker, daughter of a scientist that Lex hires to work at his fertilizer plant. Lana learns that Ginger saw a ghost in her new home, which makes Lana intrigued at the possibility of seeing her parents again, should they return from the afterlife. Eventually, Lana, Chloe, Pete, and Clark attempt to solve the mystery behind the ghost's appearance, and find a way to get rid of the ghost.[2]
  • Chloe appears in the novella Smallville: Haunting, where she becomes interested in the story of a schoolmate, Ginger Brucker, who saw a ghost. Chloe eventually discovers that there was an unsolved murder in Ginger's home, which was the childhood home of the Kansas Governor. Chloe, Pete, Clark, and Lana discover that when the Governor was an adolescent, he murdered another adolescent, with the help of that adolescent's father, and then assumed the boy's identity.[3]
