Inferno edit

In the midst of the dark forest of unfree knowledge, I see the light of open source which comes from Wikipedia. However, the way is dark and blocked, and I am fortunately rescued by 68.39.174.238, who guides me through my journey of Wiki-hell and Wiki-purgatory. We enter the gates of hell: "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here."

  • The first circle is Limbo, which contains the contributive IPs. They are not punished, they simply cannot enter Wiki-paradise because they did not register and therefore are not registered to paradise. This is the place where my guide resides. It is a pleasant place, maintained very well by the IPs, who are always at work and cheerful.
  • The second circle contains the spammers. They are forced to sow seed in a barren desert, where the sand scorches their feet and the wind burns their flesh.
  • In the third circle, we come across the city of Dis, where the vandals are tormented. We enter and encounter:
    • The obscene, who vandalized by placing obscenities in articles. They are forced to live in a lake full of putrefaction and fecal matter, living in the very object of their obscenities.
    • The blankers, who blanked and deleted portions of articles. They are chained to immense rocks, and vultures come and devour their organs. Every day, their eaten organs grow back, only to be eaten again, a la Prometheus. Some, who only blanked sentences, only have their appendix eaten, while others who totally blanked articles have their entire viscera torn out.
    • The page movers, who are chased by a storm of wasps, bees, and hornets.
    • The image vandals. I see them bent down, bottoms up while demons stretch their anuses to hideous lengths. As they posted grotesque pictures of such acts, so they are punished.
    • The fact changers, who sneakily changed facts in articles and propagated hoaxes. This part of the city is pitch black, and demons dressed as ninjas hack at them with their blades.
  • The fourth circle contains the sockpuppeteers and the meatpuppeteers. They have multiple heads representing each sock they had. They are consigned roll boulders up a cliff, only to have it slip out of their hands and fall back, like Sisyphus. The cliff is liberally greased, and the boulders are red-hot.
  • In the fifth circle are the edit warriors. They live in the boiling swamp of the Styx, where they continually attack each other, goaded by demons. As they warred in Wikipedia, so they must make war for all eternity.
  • In the sixth circle are the POV pushers and fringe theorists. They are forced to walk across tightropes over a giant pit of lava and sulphur. This tightrope is jostled by demons, as the POV pushers attempted to jostle the tightrope of NPOV and unseat their adversaries. People unlucky to fall off stay there for a hundred years, after which they are placed on the tightrope again in an endless cycle.
    • Also, in this circle there is a special tightrope for nationalists of all kinds who pushed their POV. This tightrope is made of red-hot steel, and flying harpies swoop down on the victims. Not only that, the warring nationalists attempt to push each other off, still at war among themselves.
  • In the seventh circle are the incivil and those who made personal attacks against other users. They are pierced with sharp objects: blades, saws, axes, maces, spears; shot with firearms and explosives of all kinds; and crushed with all sorts of heavy objects. They are physically tormented to the full, as they attempted to pierce and crush others on Wikipedia.
  • In the final circle are those despicable individuals who forced other users to leave the project. All the rivers and seas of the world leak to the center of the globe to be frozen, encasing those people in ice. Unlike the other occupants of hell, some of the frozen are completely naked; as they denied the right of privacy to others, they are given no privacy as well. Icy demons wander around, breaking limbs and even heads off of these frozen statues of users.

Purgatorio edit

After exiting the center of hell, we head to the mountain of Purgatory. Here, there are terraces for those who were contributive but must be purged of their wiki-sins. However, unlike in hell, there is an atmosphere in hope because those purged know that they are destined to enter wiki-heaven.

  • The first terrace contains those who bit and attacked other users. They are forced to run past a gauntlet of angels whipping them with twisted towels until they realize how their actions stung others. In this circle, I see Betacommand and Calton, running to and fro.
  • The second terrace contains those who were contributive to Wikipedia but used it more for socializing. They must fast and meditate to prepare themselves for greater virtues.
  • The third terrace is for those who were unnecessarily blunt in their dealings on Wikipedia. They are made to chop meat with dull, rusty knives. Only then do they realize how their bluntness was offensive to others. I meet (no pun intended) Elaragirl in this terrace.
  • The fourth is for those who were prompted to retire from Wikipedia. They live in a pleasant area otherwise, waiting their final ascent to paradise. Here, I am joined by RickK, who has just finished his wait. I see Ta bu shi da yu, and we have a pleasant conversation before my guide and RickK move on.
  • The fifth terrace is for those who were reckless with their actions but were otherwise contributive editors. They are slapped with wet trouts. I see Kelly Martin, Ed Poor, and Yanksox in this terrace.

After seeing the five terraces of Wiki-purgatory, I am led through wikiheaven by Clio the Muse. I bid goodbye to my IP friend as we float upwards to the planets and stars.

Paradiso edit

Led by Wikipe-tan, we float to the spheres which rotate the Earth.

  • The first sphere of the moon is the realm of the vandal fighters. I see DerHexer in this sphere.
  • The second sphere of Mercury is that of the bot operators. I see Cobi and Madman in this sphere.
  • The third sphere of Venus is those who were active in deletion and those who cleared backlogs. I see Maxim in this sphere.
  • The fourth sphere of the sun is for the photographers who took pictures and helped upload images. I see Fir0002 in this sphere.
  • The fifth sphere of Mars is for those who helped with image copyrights and fair use. I see Yamla in this sphere.
  • The sixth sphere of Jupiter is for those who mediated disputes, fought trolls, and otherwise showed good judgment. I see Revolving Bugbear in this sphere.
  • The seventh sphere of Saturn is for those who helped write articles. I see Piotrus, Anonymous Dissident, and Casliber in this sphere.
  • The eighth sphere of the stars is for those who were kind to the newcomers and helped foster good will on Wikipedia. In this sphere, I see Phaedriel.
